i want to bang on the drum all day
Some of you might remember a fire that happened in our building a couple of years ago caused by the contractor? Well, now one of the owners of our complex is suing the strata council (which I was part of) for $60, 000.
The litigants are claiming that we were grossly negligent in hiring an unlicensed/unqualified contractor to do the job. Bear in mind that this contractor had been doing the same job at the school board for about 5 years, and had done it for a number of years, just on his own. The dude is 40 years old FFS, it wasn't some rookie kid.
They are also (cartoonishly) claiming that I (or someone) should have been supervising these guys the entire time and that.....wait for it....we didn't do enough to stop the fire from spreading. LMAO. The second someone smelled smoke, the Fire Department was called.
At any rate, I don't think we'll lose this suit. The problem is that nobody in their right mind will now sit on council. Add to that, it's going to cost some money for court costs, win or lose.
