Being a Penn State fan I am very familiar with their game against OSU and Haskins. Penn State was dominating the game and Haskins did not look like much at all. The Buckeyes went to the screen game and everything changed. Penn State couldn't defend it and then as mentioned gave up a 96 yard drive on three screen plays. The announcers were going crazy but I thought the biggest reason Ohio State won was Franklin and his DC did not adjust to a simple screen game.

Long story short, I am happy the Redskins drafted this kid but I don't think he is ready yet. I am much more excited about Sweat and a couple of other guys at least for this year. Long term Haskins might be good.

Yep - I think that you are correct. What you stated in your reply is exactly what was stated in the video. I also believe that this guy needs some time (also why I believe that it is ridiculous for folks to state that if he doesn't pan out next season the Skins should look for another QB early in next year's draft - I am ok with your reply about looking for another QB in later rds).

Even these short passes are not that bad. The kid does demonstrate awareness & good field vision (if RG3 had even a fraction of that ability in those areas he might still be a starter). Looking forward to seeing Haskins play (whether in 2019 or beyond) & telling myself to be patient with this guy regardless.

Things I loved on the video; throwing the ball away and reading the defense.

Things I did not love; throwing the ball later (many college QBs do this); he does not have a windup but he has a very weird throwing motion.

I am not against short passes and screens. You don't normally get a 96 yard TD drive on three screen passes in the NFL. I think you coach him and see how it works out. We all knew this was not a QB rich draft but maybe he turns out to be a player. I just hope they give him time to learn but my Snydie sense says he is going to want him to play early …. too early. I hope I am wrong.

I remember that you weren't particularly impressed with Franklin when I mentioned that I had my eye on himas possibly a future NFL HC. What I can't remember is your actual take on his coaching skills. I hope that you don't mind, but would you help me to refresh my memory by restating your POV on him? Thanks!

Sure Sty. My opinion of Franklin is he is fine as a HC (CEO) his game day coaching is pretty poor. I thought the same of him when he was an assistant and HC in waiting here at MD. He surprised me at Vanderbilt.

IMO he lost the MD game his first year with poor coaching decisions, strategy etc. Actually I think he has cost the team 3-6 wins in his tenure. The Ohio State game I am referencing PSU had a great game plan. When Ohio State adjusted by going to the screen game Penn State never adjusted to that. The screen play is a great play but not as an offense.

I like him okay as a HC as long as he has competent assistants under him and he lets them do their job. Joe Moorhead did a GREAT job with the offense for two years but then was off to Mississippi State. Franklin is a great recruiter.

Sort of like Turgeon at MD basketball, very good recruiter but bad game coach. Gary was the exact opposite, crappy recruiter, great coach in every respect.

I went 50-75 because we had a good draft and didn’t get stupid in FA. We got a QB without trading up and regardless of what I think he will be, he gives us hope. Then we got Sweat and Love as bargains IMO.

Regarding the OP they had a good 2019 draft in an overall terrible draft class. Similar to 2013 when there were only a handful of players who turned out to be anything, I believe 2019 will have same results.

Maybe the Skins get lucky like the Eagles in 2013 when they landed Lane Johnson & Ertz in a super weak class. Maybe the Skins do the same. I dont think 2019 draft class will have much impact on any teams W/L.

Also, Snyder is still driving this ship with Bruce Allen. Till that changes, nah feelings havent changed. They arent any closer to a contending for a SB

I dont think this was a bad draft class just a bad class for skilled positions. Pass rushers were there DTs were there TE and OLineman were there. It lacked the QBs WR and RB that make people go nuts but over all I see guys like Oliver Williams and Allen working out. If given proper development I like Haskins. Also teams got good value on some guys so they may have got to a good team and might not need to shine right away and that will help their development. Guys like Metcalf I can see being good in a few years because he is on the right team.

easy for you to say... as a Bills fan they draft 1 of only 2 blue chippers in this class in Oliver.

We will see. It looks really bad on paper though and Allen reminds me of Vernon Gholston.
