White Sox acquired 2B Cesar Hernandez from the Indians for LHP Konnor Pilkington.
News of the agreement was first reported Thursday morning by ESPN's Jeff Passan, and now it has been made official. Hernandez should be a nice offensive and defensive addition to the White Sox, who've been looking for infield help ever since losing Nick Madrigal to a season-ending hamstring tear in mid-June. The 31-year-old is making $5 million this season and carries a $6 million club option for 2022.
White Sox acquired RHP Ryan Tepera from the Cubs for LHP Bailey Horn.
News of the agreement just broke and the two clubs made it official moments later. Tepera has been terrific this season on the North Side of Chicago, boasting a 2.91 ERA, 0.785 WHIP, and 50/12 K/BB ratio in 43 1/3 innings, and will give White Sox manager Tony La Russa another reliable high-leverage bullpen option for the stretch run. The 33-year-old right-hander is due to hit free agency this winter.
Padres acquired RHP Daniel Hudson from the Nationals for RHP Mason Thompson and INF Jordy Barley.
Hudson is currently on the COVID-19 IL, but that doesn't prevent him from being tradeable. The right-hander has been exceptional this year with a 2.20 ERA and 48/7 K/BB ratio over 32 innings for the Nationals. He'll likely be one of the bridges to Mark Melancon over the final two months of the season.
Red Sox acquired OF Kyle Schwarber from the Nationals in exchanged for RHP Aldo Ramirez.
The move was first reported by Robert Murray of FanSided. Schwarber is currently on the injured list with a hamstring injury, and isn't expected to be back for a few weeks. When healthy, he's been among the best power hitters in baseball with 25 homers in 72 games and a .910 OPS. Once healthy, the former Cub slugger should hit either at the top or in the middle of the Boston lineup.
