ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that Kenley Jansen has agreed to a two-year, $32 million contract with the Red Sox.

Boston has come up short in several other free agent pursuits but will have at least boosted the back of the bullpen by the end of Winter Meetings week in San Diego. Chris Martin and Joely Rodriguez are other recent upgrades to that end. Jansen, 35, pitched to a 3.38 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 85/22 K/BB ratio in 64 innings this past season with the Braves while racking up an NL-best 41 saves. He's sitting on 391 saves for his career.

José Quintana is in agreement on a two-year, $26 million contract with the Mets, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

This seems like a pretty excellent deal for the Mets in a market where Taijuan Walker scored four years, $72 million from the Phillies and Jameson Taillon went for four years, $68 million to the Cubs. Quintana delivered a 2.93 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 137/47 K/BB ratio over 165 2/3 innings (32 starts) between the Pirates and Cardinals in 2022.

Dodgers signed OF Jason Heyward to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Heyward was released by the Cubs in mid-November, still with $22 million remaining on the eight-year, $184 million free agent deal that he signed with Chicago back in 2016. The 33-year-old outfielder has fallen off defensively and holds a brutal .211/.280/.326 batting line over the last two seasons (504 plate appearances) combined. Maybe the Dodgers can work some of their magic here, but the idea of a late-career rebound feels far-fetched.

I just love seeing this non Mariners deals. These teams are so screwed in 5 years and they just don't know it. Jerry should teach them a class.

This is what I don’t get. It is understandable that you look at your future budget but I am really curious as to what he is looking at. Are they saving for Ohtani and Soto? In 2026 is the time they will be paying some guys for sure but Kirby and Gilbert are the only guys that are going to explode the budget along with JRod’s contract.

I just don’t get the whole strategy of waiting to upgrade your home now when it will be worth more in future because you are pretending everyone else’s homes aren’t going to be worth more too. Sure the other people may overpay to improve their home now, but you are just kicking the can down the road when supplies are going to be more expensive for you to upgrade then too.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets have agreed to a one-year contract with Omar Narvaez.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post adds that Narvaez will make $8 million in 2023 and that the deal includes a $7 million player option for the 2024 season. Narvaez has always graded out extremely well when it comes to pitch framing, and is only a few years removed from a terrific offensive season. He and James McCann figure to share the catching duties for the Mets -- provided McCann isn't moved elsewhere in a trade. Keep in mind, top prospect Francisco Alvarez is still waiting in the wings.
