Well there goes another one of my trade predictions in the toilet.
Angels acquired OF Hunter Renfroe from the Brewers for RHP Janson Junk, RHP Elvis Peguero and LHP Adam Seminaris.
There had been rumblings that the Brewers wouldn't want to pay Renfroe in arbitration and that he was being shopped, and that has no come to fruition. One of the better right-handed pure power hitters in the league, Renfroe will add some additional thump to a lineup that already includes Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani and Anthony Rendon. The 30-year-old slugger slashed .255/.315/.492 with 29 long balls and 72 RBI in 125 games for the Brewers in 2022. His fantasy value will take a slight hit leaving the hitter-friendly confines of American Family Field, but he's still a terrific bet to sock 30 or more dingers in 2023 as long as he stays healthy.
Dodgers signed LHP Clayton Kershaw to a one-year, $20 million contract.
The deal, which was originally agreed to back on November 11, is now official. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Kershaw receives a $15 million salary in addition to a $5 million signing bonus. The 34-year-old left-hander is back for a 16th season in Los Angeles in 2023 after finishing last year with a strong 2.28 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 137/23 K/BB ratio across 126 1/3 innings (22 starts). There are legitimate durability concerns, especially given his persistent back issues, but Kershaw should be selected as a top 45 starting pitcher in fantasy drafts next spring.
