Cardinals LHP Steven Matz has been made available for a trade, according to Michael Marino.
After signing Kyle Gibson, Lance Lynn, and Sonny Gray at the start of free agency, the Cardinals have now reportedly told teams that Matz is available via trade. The Cardinals signed the left-hander to a four-year, $44 million contract before the 2022 season. If they were able to move him, that would free up a rotation spot for another starter, like Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who the Cardinals are reportedly interested in.

The Astros could be open to trading 3B Alex Bregman this winter, according to former MLB GM and current MLB Network analyst Jim Duquette.
Duquette mentioned on MLB Network Radio that the Astros “are not gonna pay [Bregman]” what he and his agent, Scott Boras, want as a free agent. “There’s no chance he’s staying there. No chance.” As a result, Duquette mentions that it makes sense for the Astros to see what the market is for the veteran third baseman. “I think they’re listening. Keep on eye on Alex Bregman.” It’s a report that was also backed up by SNY’s Andy Martino.

Also adding Sonny Gary today. Gray, Gibson and Lynn. Three innings eaters. Not bad moves in the current MLB mindset for building a pitching staff, but they are going to need a lockdown bullpen.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Cardinals and free agent right-hander Sonny Gray have agreed to a three-year, $75 million contract.

I know I’ve already wrote this, but St Louis was a good trade partner for a guy like Miller or Woo. The longer they go and teams sign number 3’s the less leverage Jerry has and the more and more Gilbert or Kirby are going to be asked for to get a legitimate impact bat. The other teams they are linked to or “line up” with is Cincinnati and Baltimore and both of the rumored trade for both of those are a big fat no from me. Maybe Hancock for India but nothing else, and with Baltimore the rumor is for their two MLB ready prospects which are high risk and high reward but if they struggle like most Mariners rookies have then the season is lost.
So they decided to add without subtracting. Wow that is not in Dipoto's book.

He is my hero...

I was almost guaranteeing that we would deal pitchers to Cards for their young bats. I am a bit disappointed. Cards did it the right way, but I had hope.

Going into the offseason I thought maybe Miller for Donovan and one of the two OF’s would be a disappointment but crap now I don’t think Jerry could trade either Woo or Miller to St Louis for anything other than a prospect.

I was listening to Chuck Powell talk about how GM’s have their offseason checklists and sometimes they have to do them out of order. Sure I get that but that also changes leverage. The Mariners need offense badly and the longer and longer they wait for the pitchers to fall the worse and worse leverage they will have. When Jerry talks, he seems to use that logic when it comes to free agency but he doesn’t seem to think it’s possible with trades.

I think we 100% need to sign a stud pitcher and trade one or two young arms for those positions of need. We won't sign enough guys to fill out the roster. Well not sign enough quality guys anyways. A third catcher and a 6th utility guy we may do.
Both cut before the start of the season.

I swear our FO is dumber than a box of smoldering shit in the neighbors yard.

The possibility of the Los Angeles Dodgers trading for Milwaukee Brewers' players Corbin Burnes and Willy Adames has generated considerable buzz in the baseball community, with Mark Feinsand linking the two teams in trade talks.

My question is where is Seattle? We could use both these guys.

Right-handed reliever Penn Murfee and the Atlanta Braves are in agreement on a major league deal, sources tell ESPN. It's been quite a two weeks for Murfee. Braves claimed him off waivers Nov. 14, then non-tendered him three days later. He rejoins one of the game's best bullpens.

Well crap, that ain’t good for wanting Yamamoto or Snell. Those 2 are at a minimum worth twice as much as he is.
