Glad they won't, the risk of these Japanese players combined with all of the cost involved doesn't seem worth it to me. Hideki Matsui and Ichiro have really been the only hitters to live up to the hype.

Nishioka wouldn't be coming over for his bat, anyway. Nothing I have read projects him higher than a possible .270 hitter (despite the 200 hits in the Japanese league last season). His defense is what will get him a contract. You're right that the price is probably too high for the pay-off. Since all the Giants need is a solid number 8 hitter and great defender from the shortstop position it could have been a good match, but considering the money that is already dedicated to underachievers, I agree that it was a wise move to stay away from this one.

If it is true that he is an average - bat and a +++ defender, than why would we want to pay a huge premium for him?

We could just go with Crawford right away and live with an average -- bat and ++ defender, or go with an average + bat and average defense in Uribe.

If Crawford can hit .270 in the majors right now, I say bring him up. I doubt that to be the case, and I agree with staying away from Nishioka. Juan Uribe will likely be the Giants' starting shortstop next year, but I would rather see someone younger that gets on base more and has great range in the field (don't think they could find a better arm). Again, Nishioka is not the answer because of the price, but I don't think anyone is expecting him to be Ichiro or Matsui.

From what I'e read he's actually more of a ML 2b than a SS. He's got a well below average arm. This guy sounds like Kaz matsui.

If that is true, than I am glad the Giants have removed themselves from the Nishioka sweepstakes.

I'd say stick with Hardy, Uribe and internal options rather than throwing big money at players. The only ones I want us throwing big money at are Carl Crawford or Cliff Lee.

Sounds like the Giants may take Uribe and Huff to arbitration (per mlbtraderumors.com). I like Bartlett, but not enough to trade for him, I'd take Hardy over Bartlett in a heartbeat if Hardy wants to come here.

Sounds like Bartlett is pretty bad on the defensive side of the game. I never realized he was that bad. If he is, no thank you.

Replace "devil" with gp maybe??? :L

The greatest trick The Hammer ever played was convincing the world he didn't exist.

This is good news for those of us who want Hardy.

(in best Omar Little voice):

Oh, indeed!
