Lisa Halverstadt ‏@LisaHalverstadtThe court has denied a temporary restraining order on #Glendale City Council vote on #Coyotes deal.

However, Goldwater isn't giving up the fight...

Lisa Halverstadt ‏@LisaHalverstadt
MT @smunshi Sitren says #Goldwater will be back in court if the #Glendale council votes today to approve #Coyotes deal.

More from Goldwater:

Goldwater Institute ‏@GoldwaterInstEven #Glendale City Atty. said that the court has the power to intervene after the vote. We intend to pursue this avenue. #Coyotes

A statement from our Goldwater friends:

"This morning, Judge Cooper denied the Goldwater Institute’s motion for a temporary restraining order on the grounds that she felt the court lacked the authority to block the vote. Simultaneously, she issued a strong warning to the City of Glendale about the implications of moving forward today, affirming the Goldwater Institute’s contention that the city has committed “clear violations” both of court orders and open meeting laws.

She emphasized the court would be receptive to considering holding the city in contempt if the council moves forward with the vote, stating that sanctions would be in order. We hope the council will heed the judge’s warning, comply with the law, and give the public sufficient time to review the council’s proposed action."

it would be sooooo fucking funny if Scruggs and the gang spent even a minute in jail because of all of this.
maybe Shanahan could make a cameo in the sentencing video

Interesting tweet:

Lisa Halverstadt ‏@LisaHalverstadt
Clark: Within five years, Jamison has option to buy #Coyotes arena and there would be no more debt or arena fees for #Glendale.

In my opinion, that's a pipe dream for Glendale...

This whole affair has brought to mind a very funny Simpsons episode. It was the one in which Lisa did an experiment to see which one was smarter of the two between her brother Bart and a hamster.

I am reminded in particular of the scenes in which Bart and the hamster are tempted to take a cupcake wired to a painful shock pulse. The hamster learned its lesson after one shock, but good old Bart kept on trying to get it even when it kept frying him. Pretty easy to see who Bettman is in this metaphor. (No, not the cupcake WW)

Couple more tweets:

Lisa Halverstadt ‏@LisaHalverstadt

Scruggs: Westgate businesses may suffer if #Coyotes leave but likely sales tax hike hurts those in other parts of #Glendale.

Lisa Halverstadt ‏@LisaHalverstadt

Scruggs: I can't support the Jamison deal because of the city's financial situation. #Coyotes

This team needs to be moved to Quebec immediately. For all of those financial reasons, plus I really want to see the Montreal and Quebec fan bases go at it.

That's gold, Jerry, gold!

Knew the vote would be in favour of it, but it still means nothing. This deal will never be allowed to go through.

more to Dash's point:

Jamison Still Trying To Raise Money To Purchase Coyotes - Forbes

Jamison is having trouble raising the money to make the $170 million purchase because investors believe that even with a $15 million a year taxpayer subsidy over the course of the new lease the Coyotes will have difficulty turning a profit.

.......

Don’t be shocked if the NHL lowers its asking price well below $170 million or the deal with Jamison falls through, just like the previous negotiations to sell the team to Jerry Reinsdorf and Matthew Hulsizer fell apart. In November we valued the Coyotes at $134 million, last in the 30-team league.

When the City Council gathered Friday, members still had not received an economic study. Documents mentioned in the agreement were missing. Everything cried for taking a few more days to get everything in order and demonstrate this is the best deal the city could get.

Instead, the council approved the deal, 4-2. Never mind state law that requires documents be available for inspection 24 hours before a meeting. Never mind a public body's duty to be up-front with constituents.

This was pure arrogance. Goldwater will be back in court Monday, before a judge who handed it an engraved invitation. The city will likely lose. Why? Because leaders unnecessarily rushed a vote, instead of allowing the full public participation necessary in a democratic society.

Glendale destroyed trust with rushed vote

i've always wanted to own an NHL team.. since apparently you dont have to have any money to buy the coyotes and you can just have glendale pay for all of it, and have that rushed through courts, i think i'm gunna give bettman a call.. sounds like i'm just as qualified to own the team as jamison is..
