but what do they lose if the coyotes are NOT there.... is it $50M more less? nothing?

Matty, I did find the following:

At a council workshop last week, Deputy City Manager Jim Colson said a city-commissioned analysis by TL Hocking & Associates projected Glendale could expect to bring in an average of $15.7 million annually over a 20-year lease with Jamison and $6.5 million without the Coyotes.

So, basically the Coyotes are estimated to be worth a little north of $9 million in revenue per year to Glendale.

doesnt make sense to keep them there. I mean OregonDucks would be crushed to lose his team and all but if they are going to lose money with that deal I can't understand why this keeps going.

Will the Goldwater Institute scuttle the deal again?

The Goldwater Institute, a watchdog of public funds in Arizona, could decide to take legal action if the financial details it deems too disadvantageous to taxpayers.

Yesterday, a spokesman for the agency told the newspaper The Arizona Republic that details were currently scrutinized by lawyers and that comments would be issued later this week.

In a recent statement, Goldwater had left all that annual investment exceeding 12 million would be unacceptable.

Council vote set for Friday morning:

Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs and Councilman Phil Lieberman told The Arizona Republic that the council will hold a special meeting at 10:15 a.m. Friday to vote on the proposed 20-year deal with former San Jose Sharks executive Greg Jamison.

The council also is set to gather for a 10 a.m. closed-door session on Thursday to review the terms of the lease and non-relocation agreements with Jamison.

A public session, where residents will likely hear from legal and economic experts, is scheduled to follow. City officials could not say when the public portion of the gathering will begin.

"This process should be slowed down," Scruggs said. "I think the public expects an open dialogue."

Lieberman agreed.

"This is absolutely deplorably terrible," he said, adding that the meeting times would make it difficult for most Glendale residents to weigh in before council votes.

The four who appear poised to approve the deal, were not immediately available for comment Tuesday.

i just found a mindblowing comparable that kinda shows the politics involved in Glendale (or maybe alternatively Seattle?) ... If i was a taxpayer there I would have preferred they presented an unbiased study

Glendale leaders have been working for a year with a potential buyer to keep the Phoenix Coyotes in the city. Months and months were spent fine-tuning this deal to the potential buyer's and National Hockey League's specifications.

Those putting up the money for the deal -- Glendale's taxpayers -- should have the same time. Instead, the city gave them mere days. It released the draft document on Monday, scheduled a public workshop for midmorning today and slated a vote on the issue for 10:15 a.m. Friday.

Whoa! Why the rush?

Residents deserve the opportunity to fully review this complicated arrangement and offer thoughtful, well-grounded feedback. They own the arena and should have a say in how their money is spent.

City leaders need to take the time to fully explain the benefits -- and risks -- to residents. That cannot be done in a hastily called public workshop at 10 a.m. on a Thursday, when most people are at work. Especially when the only opportunity for residents to voice concerns or support for the plan comes a mere 24 hours later, again when most people are at work.

(I'm just guessing Jim Balsillie might have something to do with it.)

According to the Globe & Mail, both Gary Bettman and Bill Daly will be in Glendale tomorrow for the vote on #Coyotes deal.

Of course, isn't the balance of the Coyotes bill for this season due?

This story is finally being put to bed. Another 8 or 9 years and it will be over.

Actually, I don't think you're far off comeds. I see one of the following two scenarios:

1. The deal is approved and Jamison tries to make a go of it, realizes after a few years it can't be done, and declares he's moving the team.

2. The deal is scuttled and the Coyotes play a final season in Glendale and then are off to either Seattle or Quebec City.

@GoldwaterInst says #Glendale violated Open Meetings Law by not disclosing entire lease agreement in timely fashion.
@GoldwaterInst says it will be in court at 830am Friday to try to block #Glendale vote on #Coyotes lease at 10am.

When a deal gets fast tracked to a city council vote before the public gets a chance to see it, probably means it sucks. Nice try Gary.

It just still amazes my how Bettman is even allowed to get away with this. Trying to sell a lame duck franchise to a guy that doesn't even have the money for one. And second, trying to pass a deal without even giving the tax payers it will be fleecing a chance to know what it says.
