Let's take a step back on the roster situation...

Who exactly is eligible to be added? If memory serves, Runzler and Ray were on the DL on Sept 1, which means anyone on the roster at that time, plus Ray and Runz are eligible. The only way someone else can be added is if someone from that pool is placed on the DL.

Is this understanding accurate?

Giants' Torture means Giants in five. Reds aren't very good, so I'll say Phillies in no more than four.

Interesting interview with Bochy this morning. Looks like Zito will NOT be pitching game 4, as Boch said he's going with Timmy/Cain/Chez and then either Bum or Timmy in game 4 depending upon the series situation.

Translation. If we're up 2-1, it's Bum. If we're down 2-1 it's Timmy.

Wow, Bochy is much smarter than most fans give him credit for. I think it's just his appearance, he looks like a complete dumbass and so you expect him to be a dumbass, and when he does anything questionable everybody at once says "wtf dumbass!"

Is it really that smart to pitch Tim on short rest, on the road? Someone posted his splits on 5 days vs 4 days rest, it was a pretty big gap.

Then again, his 4 days stats were way better than Zito these last 6 weeks.

That's the way I think it works.

OK, so we are restricted to this pool of players to select our 25...

Timmeh
Cain
Durty
Zito
Bum
Wilson
Romo
Runzler
Affeldt
Casilla
Mota
Ray
Ramirez
Lopez
Posey
Whiteside
Ishikawa
Huff
Franchez
Fontenot
Rent
Uribe
Panda
Burrell
Guillen
Torres
Rowand
Nate
Ross

OK, that's 29. Did we have 4 people on the DL on the 1st? Was Rent on the DL? Mota and Affeldt had already been activated, IIRC...

If we are down 2-1, I would prefer a 90% Timmeh over a rusty anyone else on the staff...

I haven't heard anything on Mike Minor lately, what are the chances we see him in this series? Also I wanted to commend you on how well-mannered you are and how you've fit in to our conversations perfectly since showing up. Sorry I just made the move here from the ESPN board and I'm used to opposing team's fans coming here to say "you guys are gonna lose bc yall are losers and timmy smokes pot!" hahaha

LOL thanks man. Yeah ESPN has gone to hell. As for Mike Minor, he started good but the post season race has gotten him tired. He has lost nearly all velocity on his pitches and he is very tired(He even said this to Bobby Cox)
It's gonna be awesome seeing Heyward and Posey also against each other because of the ROY talk. Damn I wish this game would start right now instead of having to wait 2 days:(

I agree with Bochy's decision to not pitch Zito , the only problem is Zito's wasting a roster spot .

When will Bochy use him ? If he needs a Lefty its going to be Affeldt or Lopez .

Zito will be a cheerleader for the Brave series and most likely in the next round also if we make it .

It isn't going to happen, but how crazy would it be if Zito and Rowand were both left off of the playoff roster? Even if they're on it, they're not going to be used much. What is that? $30 million not even being used in the post season? Gnarly. Sadly, it probably makes the Giants a better team.

That would be like the Padres making it to the post season...

And not even showing up.

Couldn't Zito be used as a mop up guy? Or a 4th starter if you're up 2 games? I remember when the guy used to be awesome for Oakland. Back in like...2001

In a five-game series, there is no such thing as a "Mop-up Guy". Every inning is critical and every out is vital (and every sperm is useful).

Having a guy on the roster for that roll during the regular season makes sense. The regular season is a marathon. But during the playoffs, it is absolutely a sprint.

+1. And that Padres payroll comment was hilarious. Thank you, cal.

If it's an issue, why not leave Whiteside off the roster? If there is an emergency, we could use Pablo.

I know it's really risky, but it's not like we've been using Eli, or are going to use him anyway.
