I am actually somewhat OK with the calls as they were made.

1) Neighborhood does not apply because his back was to the runner and the throw was bad.

2) Utley was called safe by rule (assuming that rule actually exists) because no tag and no base.

3) The rule in question (interference) is umpire discretion. If he feels the DP was not possible, than the DP does not need to be called. While I disagree with the judgement, it is a judgement call, so we have no choice but to move on.

Utley also never touched the base and walked off did he not? So that makes him out. As does not starting the slide until he is essentially past the bag.

And idk what the rule is all I know is if you don't touch the base you simply can't be safe, it's fucking logic.

I don't think there is a rule that allows utley to go back to 2nd but even if there is then I'll just change my tune and say right call, dumb fucking rule.

It's illogical anyways you look at it.

How can he be called out if the base was never touched by the defender and the defender never tagged him out?

That is equally illogical.

He should have been called out for interference. I stand behind that. But barring that, he was NOT out, thus, he was safe.

Will be really interesting to see how the Mets approach any DP the Dodgers attempt to turn on Monday. I expect it to be really dirty

Tejada touched the bag w/ his right toe......and he held onto the ball, before AND after being run into by the runner out of the base path...

Same way if a guy strikes out on a ball in the dirt and just walks back to the dugout untagged.

You can't walk off the field of play and be safe. So you saying it's ok for me to avoid a tag by doing a loop out to centerfield?

Sorry but I have no time for anyone trying to defend that slide or that call.

Dirty slide and ridiculous call
I wouldn't even bother starting Harvey.

I'd start the reliever who's most eager to crack ribs. And id make it a competition.

From the first bunch of replays, it appeared that Tejada missed the bag. But this one seems to show that he touched the bag with his toe before continuing past the bag.

Will not watch. My head will explode.

It's MLB. He doesn't need to touch the bag.

This is worse than when baseball tried to be sticklers on the "exchange" for outfielders.

That's not the same thing, because he isn't called out until he's tagged. Utley was called out by umpire error.

I am not defending the vicinity play, nor the slide. Just trying to have some video of the play. Utley should have been out. The runner at first should be out. End of the inning. Terrible play. Terrible call by the replay officials.

BK thinks that Utley is the first player in history to slide that way lol. If Tejada does not do a mid-air spin then he most likely doesn't break his leg, or if Murphy feeds him the ball that wasn't putting him in a horrible position, that DP was not possible based on Murphy's feed.

The replay ruled that he never touched it. Your opinion doesn't matter.

So every guy the walks back to the dugout is free to go back and run to first at anytime cuz he still hasn't been called out?

Utley made a choice and never went to the base. He didn't touch it. He left the base path and the field of play. It's simple. You can't do that. Otherwise guys would be running out to left field and playing tag.

Out of the baseline? Idk.

Dude never touched the bag. This is a first for me in 34 years.

Tie goes to the runner, but that involves touching the bag, right?
