Matt Kemp and Big Mac get along really well, from what I understand.
Yonder, who could get on base and play good defense but struggled staying healthy and showed NO power, isn't gonna be a big loss, same goes for that Rzepcyznski guy. While the Padres get Pomeranz who at worst should be a lefty specialist out of the pen and at best can be a #3 or #4 starter, a lefty prospect Jose Torres, and either a PTBNL or cash. Unless Yonder can learn how to play 150 games a year and hit for power(not something I'd expect in Oakland) this looks like a good deal for the Padres based on the money they shed alone. San Diego made a trade with Oakland for a tall pitcher a few years back who spent time between starting and coming out of the bullpen with the A's, and that worked out pretty well. The Padres shed more salary after trade with the A's.
Free-agent pitcher Zack Greinke has agreed to a six-year deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to ESPN and multiple media reports. My most hated Dodger now a Dback! He must have liked our new Uni's!!!
Sounds like the Dodgers are close to getting Chapman, not exactly what I want to see but it'll cost them some good prospects at least.
I wonder if they'd give the 9th to Chapman because he's better(imo) or stick with Jansen there. Definitely would be tough, they still have to find more guys who can get the ball to them with a lead.Jansen and Chapman together would be a lethal late game tandem.
Now only spending around $14 million between Jedd and Jay, saving $19 million of the $33 million they would have owed Jedd.Padres shed more money by Trading Jedd and his $30+ million contract for Jon Jay who gets about $7 million before becoming a FA after the 2016 season. Either they're sending STL $9 million which would save them around $16 million, or they're sending $17 million which would only save them around $8 million.
Maybe, just maybe, the Padres can finally get some OFFENSE!!McGwire officially announced as Padres bench coach...
We added a legit 1 and 2 to our rotation without giving up any core players. This team can score with anyone and plays great defense. Now with the added pitching we should be a legit contender. Anybody who is knocking these moves is crazy.I thought this was a very balance analysis of the trade. I think too many people are over-valuing prospect and under-valuing the cost of frontline pitching.

DBacks were obviously focused on winning now based off of signing Greinke, they know the offense and defense are good but have struggled keeping their opponents from scoring a lot of runs. Miller is a proven pitcher and a good one, and while Blair/Swanson can turn out to be good-great they haven't proven themselves at the ML level and aren't ready to help a win now team. I think value wise with their potential, the Braves got the better end of the trade but just because you're a good pitching prospect or the 1st overall pick doesn't guarantee anything when it comes to your ML career.I thought this was a very balance analysis of the trade. I think too many people are over-valuing prospect and under-valuing the cost of frontline pitching.

I made this same observation a couple days back. The difference is that the dbacks have addressed their weakness without creating a new weakness on their MLB squad. The D-Backs are the Padres of last offseason. I hope it works out better for them, than it did for San Diego.
