FIP completely ignores hits????

Um, OK. Here is a stat I will ignore moving forward.

Give me WHIP and vsBA and vsOPS any day of the week...

well, yeah. There's plenty of luck/defense involved in hits. The only things pitchers have direct control over are strikeouts, walks, home runs and HBPs.

I don't buy that. Movement on pitches affects "missed bats". Pop ups instead of line drives. Ropes in the gap.

Hits are, IMHO, a more important stat for a pitcher than ERs.

To each their own, I guess, but FIP is useless if it ignores both hits AND earned runs.

These games are pure gold. How could any sports fan not like pennant races? How?!

The Dodgers could be up 2-1/2 games but that one swing sends the fans home ecstatic and the boys in blue are up 4-1/2. That was a big win and at the very least eliminates worst-case-scenario for the Dodgers.

He's young in the amount of innings he has thrown in a season. You are taking it literally regarding age when I have already spelled this out to you in another thread.

You may have "spelled it out" in another thread but that doesn't make this one any less absurd. If by 27,28 years old, in the physical prime of his life, a pitcher cannot get through August in a baseball season, he never will.

Hard to say. Arrieta does have 4.2 more innings and a 0.43 ERA (compared to MadBum's 1.43, and Kershaw's 1.40). Bumgarner had a 0.71 FIP (!!!!) and 1.59 xFIP for the month though, and Fangraphs gives him a clear edge in WAR (2.2).

Gotta go to Arrieta.
