Some of you have clicked on the thread about the old-time headlines in baseball. Lots of fun. I found this curious item when I was looking up the headlines for Vandy's 2 no-hitters (posted on that page.)

This one is from June 18, 1938 from the Cincy paper. I had never heard this story before but I always knew Dizzy was not the same after he left St. Lou'. Apparently, PK Wrigley was thinkin' he got the shitty end of the pole, according to somebody. The Cardinals claimed otherwise. I hope you can read it.

Baseball, 1959 ... it doesn't get any weirder than this.
Give him some cortizone and run him through the whirlpool. He'll be fine in a couple of days. It's just the 'misery' in his elbow after throwing 150 pitches in spring fucking training.
Doc Finegold gives him a thumbs-up.

Satchel Paige pitched 160 games in a row...for three years straight!

That's just crazy.

This 4 games series to start the season is pretty big. The central is going to beat itself up this season.

Go Cardinals.

My prediction for the Cardinals is 84-78. Which will probably be 3rd in the division. I'm not high on their starting rotation. I worry about Carpenter at 3rd. Both his fielding and staying healthy to provide a solid bat.

It's always fun to start a new season after a pennant. Regression is always possible if not probable. Can our bullpen replicate what it did last year? Can the magic reappear in Yelich's bat? A lot of winning baseball is about timely hitting, a kind of luck factor. With the top 3 teams in the division so close, a lucky break or 2 may secure the pennant.

Wong and Bader hit back to back HR's. Cardinals up 3-0.

Credit Fowler for drawing a walk before Wong.

Castillo doing okay today, but his location can be a little better. A few favorable strike calls from the ump, which allowing him to deliver that change-up being in front on the count alot.

Look at that. The lead quickly evaporated. Glad to see the bullpen haven't missed a beat.

The bullpen is probably going to be an adventure but this Reds team will score a lot of runs. The outfield defense already smells like dead fish.
