Honestly, at this point I would probably rather have Sean Smith than Revis. Smith is younger and just coming into his talent while Revis is coming off of a major injury and going to be asking for twice as much money.

I'm leaning towards this as well. Sean Smith is just the kind of player Harbaugh and Baalke covet. An under rated guy who could be had for less and be a stud.

I'm strongly against acquiring Revis.

I concur.

I would rather not get him. Think we are fine without him. Draft or sign a free agent

Especially with the depth in free agency at CB.

Best news I've heard today so far...don't need him breaking the bank.

Revis in my opinion is likely a fall back option for Baalke if the 9ers lose out majorly in free agency.

I think they are going to be all in for going after a CB there rather than going after Revis.

After being a shitty team for a long time until recently, it is nice to know that free agents are more willing to come here to get a ring. Most FA's didn't give much thought to SF in the early 2000's except to start a bidding war. I think we'll find what we want in free agency.

We'd be an even more attractive place to play if California didn't want to rake everyone over the coals in taxes especially the rich so they can piss away and misuse the funds and fall back on the old "if we don't raise taxes we're not going to have money for little Johnny's education or afford the police to protect you" so they can continue to be completely irresponsible with tax payer money.

At this point, it makes ZERO sense to trade AND pay Revis. He's constantly asking for a new contract, he's asking for TWICE what other CBs in the market are asking, and his injury history has been largely linked to his holdouts. I haven't even mentioned that he is coming of a torn ACL, which there is no guarantee that you will be receiving a CB the calibur he WAS. I haven't even mentioned that we would have to trade picks for him in addition to his outrageous contract demands.

He just doesn't really seem like a 49er type player to me.

From Sando's NFC WEST blog

Revis watch: ESPN's Chris Mortensen cites a source saying the San Francisco 49ers are not inclined to acquire New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis at this time. I would amend "at this time" to "at this time or at any time recently" based on the 49ers' established way of doing business. This has felt like one of those media- and fan-driven stories framed from a Jets perspective. The last time the 49ers spent truly big money for a veteran from another team was ... when, again? 2008?

The "madden idea" of Revis intrigues me but realistically I wouldn't want the 49ers to go after him for a number of reasons.
  1. The wide variety of available CBs to choose from
  2. Revis age in comparison to some of those available CBs
  3. He might not bounce back from the knee injury
  4. His history of wanting to renegotiate his deal every 2 years to remain the highest paid player

LOL, I guess he forgot about 1994. Getting so close and losing two years in a row makes teams do things they typically wouldn't.... 92 and 93 are pretty comparable to 11 and 12 in regards to how it went for the 49ers.

I actually think the hangup in a 1 year rental would be Revis, he doesn't strike me as the guy who would let the 49ers borrow him for a year in hopes of plugging the leak in the secondary.

1994 has no effect on this current team or how it's run.

They were talking about the 49ers potentially acquiring Revis on ESPN radio today because the Niners have so many draft picks. I think it was John Clayton who said he wouldn't expect 'em to though.

Too much $$ and too much of a diva. Id rather draft one or get one in FA.
