If you could sign Revis for 12 million a year would you be willing to give up next years 2 and 3? or 1 and 4?

At this time I would say no. We need to use those draft picks on cheaper contributors to the roster.
Entering the 2015 season we currently have 18 players on the roster with $45,607,867 in cap space if Revis were to be counting exactly $12M, 2 more draft classes bring that total down.

Here are some notables that aren't signed for 2015:

Kaep
Anthony Davis
Mike Iupati
Crabtree
Aldon Smith
Culliver
Kendall Hunter
Frank Gore granted he might be done by then anyway
Jennings our long snapper
Kilgore who may or may not be a scrub
Bruce Miller

Guys not signed for 2014:

Justin Smith, old and done anyway?
Tarrell Brown
Anquan Boldin, old and done anyway?

I hear you. I'd think Gore, Smith, Boldin, Brown, would be done. Possibly Jennings. Maybe VD? You're probably right, though. Build through the draft seems to be the philosophy for sure.

Yep, no way.

SI's Peter King reports Tampa Bay would likely trade its first- and second-round picks in 2014 for Darrelle Revis.
The holdup is the Jets' desire for picks this year, and Bucs GM Mark Dominik is reluctant to give up the No. 13 overall selection. As King points out, it's not a smart move by the Jets to hold out for this year's selection. They should take the two 2014 picks in what is shaping up to be a much better quarterback class. Per King, Tampa would be willing to pay Revis "in the neighborhood" of $15 million annually. The Bucs are the only team in the hunt for Revis. It's probably a matter of time before the sides reach a compromise.

SI's Peter King expects Darrelle Revis to be dealt to the Bucs for "two high draft choices" before the draft.

King also expects GM John Idzik to "try to find a way to not trade Revis." We don't. Revis will be traded, it's just a matter of whether or not it's before the draft. The only team in hot pursuit, the Bucs should eventually find a way to close the deal.

Agreed.

Honestly if I'm the Bucs and I know I have enough cap space to be the highest bidder I'm just waiting for FA and take my chances there and keeping my draft picks.

That will give you a full season to make sure his knee is good and if you lose out you lose out. Having Revis on your defense would be a big boon to it but it's not like you can't win without him.

Darrelle Revis - DB - Jets

According to SI's Peter King, Jets owner Woody Johnson is "categorically against" extending Darrelle Revis' contract.

But remember, the Jets aren't "actively shopping" their best player. King still views Revis to the Bucs as "inevitable," and likely to happen before the draft. That leaves three weeks for another suitor to emerge, but thus far, Tampa has been the only team willing to play ball.

The Tampa Tribune believes Darrelle Revis trade talks could remain cool until the Bucs "have a better feel for what will be available to them at No. 13."

Per reporter Roy Cummings, the Bucs are "holding on tight" to their first-round selection, still preferring to deal 2014 selections. Cummings believes the Bucs may become more amenable to dealing this year's first-rounder if/when they "don't feel a pressing need for any of the players available to them at 13 and no one affords them the opportunity to trade down." Revis talks should simmer for a few more weeks before heating up again around draft time.

Three sources tell Yahoo's Jason Cole the Buccaneers are "growing impatient" with Darrelle Revis trade talks.

Both sides seem to be using the media to put pressure on one another. There's no reason for true impatience with the draft over two weeks away. Cole does pass along two interesting notes: 1. Thus far, the Bucs are Revis' only "serious bidder." The Jets would love to get another team involved to drive up Revis' price. 2. The Bucs are willing to trade first-, third-, and sixth-round picks for Revis, as well as sign him to a long-term deal worth upwards of $16 million a year. Still, the sides seem to be merely posturing. Expect a trade by the draft's first day (April 25).

The New York Daily News reports the Jets still plan to trade Darrelle Revis to Tampa Bay "if the price is right."

The price is believed to be Tampa Bay's No. 13 overall selection, which to this point Bucs GM Mark Dominik has refused to surrender. We figure he'll have a change of heart just before or when Tampa Bay goes on the clock. The Daily News expects the trade to occur "likely during the week of the draft." Despite their public claims, the Jets have been shopping Revis and are intent on trading him because owner Woody Johnson won't extend his contract.

Citing multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, Profootballtalk.com reports the Bucs are indeed willing to trade the Jets the No. 13 overall pick in exchange for Darrelle Revis.

To this point, the trade hangup was believed to be Bucs GM Mark Dominik's unwillingness to surrender pick No. 13. That's no longer the case. Tampa Bay appears to have placed the 13th pick on the table, but Jets GM John Idzik "wants a lot more," per PFT's sources. Yahoo's Jason Cole reported late Sunday that Dominik has offered the Jets first-, third-, and sixth-round picks for Revis and is open to paying him upwards of $16 million annually. This trade is clearly heating up as both sides continue to posture through the media.

That is overpaying twice: 1st in how many draft picks they are giving up, and then secondly by probably making Revis one of the highest paid players in the league.

I'm actually glad now we are out of this mess. When it's all said and done Tampa will probably have overpaid twice. This could be version 2.0 of Nnamdi going to Philly and not playing up to the contract.

Revis chatter continues
April, 9, 2013 9:46AM ET
By Tim Kavanagh | ESPN.com

After several days of quiet on the Darrelle Revis trade front, there was a lot of activity over the weekend, capped off with Monday's report that the New York Jets are unwilling to accept anything less than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 2013 first-round pick (No. 13 overall) as the foundation of the trade package coming their way. According to the same report, Bucs GM Mark Dominik is still weighing whether or not to acquiesce to these demands after earlier reports had indicated Dominik was willing to part with the Bucs' first- and second-rounder in 2014 instead. So what's the latest?

Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com speculates that Jets GM John Idzik could be looking for a trade package akin to what the Minnesota Vikings got from Seattle for WR/returner Percy Harvin (the No. 25 and No. 214 overall picks in this year's draft, plus the Seahawks' third-rounder in 2014). Whether the Bucs are willing to give up that high of a bounty for a player returning from a torn ACL remains to be seen.

Along that same line is the timing issue. Specifically, earlier thoughts that this trade could take place with the Bucs on the clock at No. 13 are a little misguided. Tampa Bay will want their medical folks to thoroughly examine Revis before any trade is transacted, and that will take some time. Cimini's sources have also revealed that a deal isn't likely to take place until the week of the draft, while the Bucs are operating under a soft deadline of Apr. 18 (one week prior to the opening night of the draft).

From Tampa's perspective, they know (or are pretty certain) that they're the only suitors. If they don't want to give up the No. 13 pick, they can simply wait the Jets out and try to make a deal later this offseason; in the meantime, they can use a pick or two on a prospect at the position, and they'll have some options at No. 13 (though none will be nearly as dominant as a healthy Revis). The Jets obviously want to get this deal transacted prior to the draft (with the No. 13 pick in their possession), and sending Revis away will remove a potential distraction as Rex Ryan puts his troops through the offseason workouts.

The last party involved here is Revis and his agents, who obviously want this situation sorted out quickly as well: although Revis is a better player than the CBs that hit free agency this offseason, the contracts for players at the position do not lend credence to the idea that Revis is worth $16 million per season, a figure for which he is reportedly aiming with his new deal. If no trade is transacted, and he remains a Jet for the final season on his current deal, he'll be back on the market in 2014, with no guarantee that big money will be out there for him.

In the end, it does appear that the momentum is in the direction of this deal getting done prior to the draft, in Cimini's view:

Rich Cimini
Latest Revis buzz roundup

"Prediction: This trade will happen. There's too much motivation on each side for it not to happen. To use one of former GM Mike Tannenbaum's favorite expressions, it's just a matter of finding a landing place that makes sense for both sides. The feeling here is that the Jets will extract the 13th pick, giving them nine and 13 -- a chance to plug two holes in their lineup."

By the way... and this probably goes without saying... but now that Nnamdi is signed and Rogers' salary is guaranteed, I think that pretty much takes Revis completely off the table for the Niners.

Revis health update
April, 12, 2013 9:46AM ET
By Tim Kavanagh | ESPN.com

Unless you've managed to avoid all forms of social interaction for the past several weeks, you know that the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are trying to work out a trade involving CB Darrelle Revis. Jets owner Woody Johnson has reportedly decided that paying his best player up to that player's demands is not something in which he's interested, and new GM John Idzik has been tasked with getting a proper return for the game's best CB. The two teams have been attempting to work out a mutually agreeable trade package, while Revis' agents have been pushing their own agenda through the media, trying to get the deal done as soon as possible. One of the factors involved here is the CB's recovery process coming off a torn ACL. So where do things stand in that regard?

The NFL Network is chronicling Revis' recovery, and the latest installment aired Thursday. In the piece, Revis was seen running, cutting and performing some agility drills; this is line with what was expected at this phase of his recovery, but it's always good to have some visual evidence of what's going on.

The next step of the process will take place on Monday. According to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com, that's when Revis will undergo an MRI in Manhattan. Thereafter, he'll report to the Jets, who have demanded that he take part in this round of the offseason program, even though he'd prefer continuing to rehab in Arizona. The results of the MRI will provide another hint as to Revis' prognosis for returning to his former dominant self, though the Bucs will naturally want their own doctors to have a look before finalizing any trade.

"There's been a lot of talk," Revis said during the NFL Network show of the circulating trade rumors. "We'll see what happens -- if I'm there or if I'm not. But that's the next step. That's the next phase for me in my career, these next couple of weeks."

The results of Monday's MRI may have an effect on how quickly this deal gets done.

Darrelle Revis - DB - Jets

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports the Jets are pressing the "pause button" on Darrelle Revis trade talks with the Bucs.

In other words, Jets GM John Idzik is trying to further leverage Revis' only known pursuer. SI's Peter King reported Monday the Bucs are willing to surrender first-, third- and fifth-round picks for the league's top cornerback, but are "growing impatient" with the Jets' stall tactics. The Bucs have no leverage aside from abandoning their pursuit, so Idzik could continue to let them twist in the wind for the foreseeable future. It remains in both sides' best interest to hammer out a deal before the draft.

Darrelle Revis - DB - Jets

ESPN New York reports Darrelle Revis' (knee surgery) Monday MRI showed he's "ahead of schedule," and that he's been cleared to run "without restriction."

Revis will now head to Jets' team facilities to meet with GM John Idzik for the first time since Idzik's hiring. According to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, Idzik will review Revis' MRI, and then decide the "right thing to do." The implication is that Idzik has yet to decide whether or not he'll trade his star cornerback, but it strains belief. Revis' destiny remains a ticket out of New York, likely to the Bucs, and likely before the draft.
