What does this lockout do for the credibility of the NHL & the thought that it is one of the Big 4? It's got to be especially tough on my neighbors to the North. Given the global economic environment & the ever shrinking 'discretionary spending', this could not have come at a worse time. Just when the game was getting a lot of cred back, NBC/Versus/NHL Network were upping the games on TV, the Holiday Classic, etc. Very short-sighted...

15 years soccer surpasses hockey and baseball in terms of popularity in the U.S. Book it.

I really dont know how tough it is up here ... I think we will go on ... find other forms of hockey because we love it and there is plenty of it from ahl to major junior to tier 2

thats what the difference is ... we will hate on the game but we will come back ... always ... and thats on us

as opposed to the states ... lots of people wont go back ... the lockout creates a much more dangerous situation down there because the opposite of love isnt hate ... its apathy

Take Columbus as an example - The team is a mess on the ice, they traded their franchise player for a bag of magic beans, and if the lockout is a long one, there goes the 2013 All-Star Game that they were planning to host.

Not a lot IMO.

Maybe but I have my doubts. I have been hearing how big soccer was going to get for the last 30 years.

Sure. I guess I was more thinking from a Big 4 or professional sports aspect. Not sure how popular the CFL is or if NFL has many followers. NBA & MLB are virtually non-existent. Then again, you probably have better pubs than we do. :thrasher:

Or look at how much $$$ Minny plunked down on 2 guys, hoping to get to legitamacy. I know they have great fans, but it's gotta hurt.

Havn't been paying attention to why the NHL is locked out but regardless of my non intrest in the NHL I will always think of it, as well my generation, as one of the big 4.

@ Nasty Mich....you could be right. Hispanic culture is increasing in this country and that just adds to its popularity. If not 15 years, maybe 20, however the worst thing that could happen for the NHL is for the US to win the World Cup.

Both the CFL and NFL are very popular in Canada - TSN has done a great job with their coverage. MLB and NBA are popular in Toronto mainly (just my opinion).

I think both the US and Canada have fine pubs :)

CFL has been known to surpass NHL games in tv ratings up here ... Toronto is probably the only place where CFL support wanes

The good pub checklist:

Good beer

That's the whole list.

Just a guess: Seahawks, Packers, Vikings, Browns & Bills have the largest fan bases. Maybe some old bandwagon favorites like the Patsies, Cowgirls & Whiners.

Yeah, I think you have most of them covered - Plenty of Steelers and Dolphins fans as well.

Seahawks have a season ticket base of around 5to7000 from BC

That game against the Boys last weekend was fun to watch (sorry matty) - Russell Wilson off to a fine start in his NFL career.
