I'm honestly starting to think they want to finish this season because Bettman et al believe things are gong to be worse in October and cancelling the 2020-21 season is a distinct possibility.

I don't think there's any properly-informed position which can be genuinely optimistic of a safe return to play until sometime in 2021 at this point. Absent a drastic shift in federal response in the US, or a widely-distributed vaccine, I think we'll have to wait not only for a [hopefully] new presidential administration, but for some time for that new administration's policies in response to the virus to take effect.

I dont think the nhl is that forward thinking i think the networks are pushing them to live up to their broadcasting deals because they are desperate for programming. The league probably also see mlb scuffling to agree to play and think they can grab some attention amongst bored/desperate/captive casual sports fans.

they wanted their playoffs in the summer and a startup in december for a shortened 20/21


/btw i see they are now talking cba extension. I missed it ... were the players going to be paid for these playoffs ?
