Ngata was pretty much the only dominant DL who wasn't going to get the franchise tag. Mario Williams almost certainly will. Aaron Smith is 36 & has had some injury problems, so he's probably circling the drain...
I don't remember the last time I remember thinking that the Niners had a strong enough foundation of talent upon which to add the pieces to a superbow. I look at this team and I really don't see it. If they signed a guy like Ngata I may have sung a different tune. They did after the 2001 season IMO, but Donahue COMPLETELY blew it in both FA and the draft.
Baalke better be this secret super genius. The Niners seriously need more talent on the DL.
