QB contracts are just ridiculous, but unlike the Hurts and Jackson contracts that I think will leave teams worse off, this one will pay off. Herbert will be a HOFer IMO. He's just a complete super stud and makes throws every week that few QBs can make. Cincy should have acted first, now it costs them another $1M per year because they waited, but Burrow too will be worth it.

That's the problem. Teams need to take a stand with the good but not great QBs and tell them they are "only" getting like $40M per. You pay Mahomes and Herbert and Burrow what it takes, but If my Cowboys, for example, turn around and give Dak an extension at $53M per it will cause more harm than good IMO. You need to start telling these guys to take it or leave it and move on. Only so many of them will get these types of deals on the open market and the contracts will come down once teams take a little bit of a stand.

Burrow has said since last year his desire is to get his pay in such a manner that they can keep both Higgins and Chase...will that actually happen? Who knows...but he's reiterated that statement throughout the off-season, and again yesterday at the open of camp.

If he's true to his word, how does that look? No clue...maybe they look at a 6-7 year deal to spread out more of the money...but, Bengals also have a fair amount of cap room both this year, and next, to absorb a lot of payments up front now, lessening the actual cap burden down the road...and likely another 25-30M next year as the cap is expected to be around 255M (up from just under 225M this year).

I have no issues with Burrow waiting on Herbert...afterall...you can argue he's been the better QB and helped completely turn a moribund franchise into a playoff winner, been to a SB, and is 5-1 in playoff games along with 3-1 against K.C...the prohibitive favorite in the AFC Conference.

Not to mention if Aaron Donald didn't save the day, the Bengals easily win the SuperBowl since Jalen fell down :pound:

literally 2 seconds away, maybe even just 1 second....but, them the breaks....it was a hell of a ride...

Biggest thing from Burrow is that he has completely change the perception of the Bengals...they've had good stretches in the 2000's, and again in the mid 2010's...but they were never playoff threats...Burrow has changed that...Bengals are 5-1 in the playoffs with Burrow (5-2 with SuperBowl loss)...and legit contenders for a Super Bowl (along with a few others of course)...that's a lot of heavy lifting with a Franchise that last won a playoff game in 1990....

Herbert is going to have some pressure to deliver now in the big games. Great talent and will put up great numbers but has to get the team over the hump. He will be judged on winning in the play-offs, maybe not entirely fair but nonetheless, more failure in that regard brings bigger criticism when you get the big bucks.

Its absolutely wild that he is 25-25 as a stud QB on a rookie contract on a talented team. Feels like almost every time the Chiefs play him its a coin flip and yet not a lot to show for his career before getting paid.

You young football fans must remember this is the ultimate team sport. Real good players playing THE most important position in all of team sports can not overcome 50 other players.

Mahomes is the best but others are pretty darn good too.

This is one of the issues with Herbert. Since his college days he has always been considered a rare talent. But it never seems to translate to sustained success. At Oregon everyone blamed the coaching staff. Same thing is happening in LA. Could just be a matter of time before everything clicks with that team, but until then I think it's worth questioning why Herbert's talent doesn't translate to wins.
