there should be some type of escalators for late round pick rookies receiving yards, rushing yards etc

While I agree with the idea I'm so sick of the "the average career is 3.2 seasons" argument. That figure is skewed because of the huge number of players who sign for a month, a year etc. Guys who have proven they can play, like Alfred Morris, will play way more than 3 years.

God forbid Morris blows out his knee and cant take another snap. But you really think its even remotely fair to him to have made $250k morein three years total, than Ameer Abdullah got just for signing his name. And this is based mostly on the school they went to. Thats like saying a guy who graduated from Harvard with a 2.0 Should make 5 times as much as the Valedictorian from FSU. Teams constantly complain when they CHOOSE to over pay guys like Haynesworth. When a low rounder clearly outperforms his draft status, there should be measures in place to at least fairly compensate them for their effort.

Even if it isnt fair, thats the way it is.....If Morris had been selected higher, he would have made more.....but at least he gets the playing escalators he has....he has set himself up for a nice payday after this year......As far as the Harvard grad vs the FSU grad...well harvard is more prestigeous, and in theory a better academic school....The harvard grad paid out his ass (or mom and dad did) for that education, so that when he graduates, he will make some serious scratch....

Of course I don't think that's right which is what I said in my first sentence. My post had everything to do with the "average career" argument and nothing to do with what you are responding to.

OK gotcha.. but I will point out that that average career number also takes into account guys like Favre and D. Green who skew the metric the other way. Punters, Kickers and guys like Brian Mitchell and Bruce Smith that played until a week before they could draw SSI.

Oh no doubt. And for a guy like Alfred Morris, who has a very short window to cash in due to his position, I have no problems changing the rule to be more fair. I'm pretty sure he will leave, I am really rooting for him to get a huge deal and to have a good career.

well we have what ? about 7 years left on this CBA , maybe less ? so changes can be incorporated but the cap hurts a lot of what you would want to do .

then you have to look at some facts , most late round picks dont make the NFL , those that do usually will be replaced by a younger cheaper , perhaps better players .

a case that could come up is this year . we have a 6th round pick at a position of need (safety ) jarrett can return kicks and punts and has some upside at either safety position . we have 2 guys robinson and davis who have been cut from other teams , werent signed by this current FO and thier upside is limited . one or both could be gone which is typical of their draft status they wont earn any real incentives at all as most will not

russell wilson's wagners , and morris's are rare so perhaps the rule changes arent a huge deal but owners will say then why are we trying to fix things that dont occur very often . what relief do we get

the cap would appear to have to be changed as well

there will be some interesting goings on when this deal is done

the nature of the beast... they will never come up with a pay scale that takes care of both rookies and Veterans AND something the owners will accept.
