I hear you...clearly going to the ground, but also clearly caught the ball and never lost possession of it.

I understand the call, but it doesn't really apply across the board...only on a catch which creates some debate. At the same time, I've moved on.

You're being somewhat vague.

What do you mean, when you say "he never lost possession"?

Also, what aspect of it doesn't apply across the board?

Fer Christ's sake, his left hand came off the ball entirely.

Here's the better angle. It's not even close.

He was literally holding the defenders wrist. Not sure how it was missed.

Watch the end (50 sec mark), especially the replay. Bryant held him? Yeah. But Gilmore was holding the whole time before. Can't blame Bryant for fighting for position.

What we need here is another few hundred posts that say the rule was applied correctly. That will clear things up.
:stephena:

Honestly, I dont think anyone is arguing that. Just that rule make s no sense. So catching the ball on your knees is not possession. That means I can catch the ball on the 20 sitting on my ass and then crawl 19 yards with the ball and then drop it and it is an incomplete pass because technically I cant make a football move unless I am on my feet.

Dumbest rule ever!

Even then it is offsetting penalties and no TD.

If you can crawl 19 yards without being touched down, why would you not get up and run it in?
Crawling? Really? Is that how they do it in the NFCN?????

Lol. I'm a realist. It's funny that some people take me as a Pats basher in this thread. I'm far from it. If you want to pretend Gilmore is a good football player, that's your choice. Just avoid any tape on him, you'll be fine.

By the way, this is complete revisionist history. Patriots fans back then were optimistic about Brady but the consensus was that it was the defensive performance that won them the title.

Correct. A lot of people thought Law or Vinitieri should have gotten the MVP. (And White from last year) But QBs often get the nod. A fact of the NFL.

In other words, let them play.... Nothing to see there in either direction.

I don't think I've hung around to even watch who won MVP in years.

Game over, I'm on to other TV shows.

I'm sorry I was somewhat vague Richi, he never lost possession seems pretty clear to me.

But, you're right, at the end of the day...by rule it wasn't a catch...time to move on.

You say the MVP should have been the pats D but then you show how great Warner was in the 4th quarter when the D gave up 14 points and the lead... that makes no sense. Brady was the clear MVP of that game... because of the final drive. It's not just the stats from that drive but how he performed at the highest level at the most important time.
I said defense based on the three take aways. The Pats needed all three TO's to have a chance for Brady to even be in position for that drive leading to the ~50 yard game winning field goal.

Besides, on most of those pass plays on that drive, the Rams rushed 3 and the Pat receivers still got wide open. Besides the quick hit to the TE who still got wide open on the blitz it really wasn't that impressive, he was never under pressure and he throws to wide open receivers.

I'm all for calling Brady the best to stand behind center but lets not get carried away here, the defense won that game with the pressure they put on Warner creating two int's and one hell of a hit creating a fumble after the catch. Two of those take aways lead to 10 points (One a pick 6, the other that short field goal) and y'all won by 3.
