Sorry Gold but I'm glad you aren't making the pick because that was way too high for a guy like him. Sure Gregory has had issues but nothing compared to Dorial Green-Beckham. Smoking Weed is different than theft and domestic assault (I believe he was accused but not convicted) plus smoking weed. I wouldn't touch the guy at 15 and I don't think the Niners will either.

The highlighted as well as work ethic are the reasons my conviction for Dorial (as the BPA at 15 if he's there) is wavering. I didn't say that I would pick him, my only point was that his physical attributes cannot be denied...which is why I referenced it as a "sexy" potential "Davis" pick if the 9er brass did pull the trigger. I think he could be mentored by our coaches/vet receivers and turn into an extremely valuable player, but then again who knows how he interviewed at the combine. You can't unlearn stupid, but you can't teach size/talent. He's a roll of the dice at this point at 15. He will be gone by the end of the 1st IMO.

Agree that 15th is too high for DGB, but my first concern is reading his "poor" work ethic. Granted i only read it once, so this might not be VERY true?

The next issue was reading he is 'weak' in running route, ie he gets re-directed too often. How can someone this big get re-directed? Does this imply he's also a weak run blocker?

the next issue is his lack of college tape, ie not enough consistent performance. Due to less college playing time, how long will he take to even become an NFL starter? Because he's behind from college, only hard work will allow him to catch up....IF you can catch up at the NFL level?

The measurables are clearly great, but is the only thing holding him THIS high. How many "work out warriors" have we seen before?

Ronald Darby who some are saying is better than PJ Williams. I thought about drafting him but I still think enough CBs I like are still on the board I will get one in the 3rd round.

I think I would have taken Randy Gregory and Devin Smith in the first and second, respectively. I really like going WR in the second instead of the first. So much talent there.

I decided to draft Ifo Ekpre-Olomu CB from Oregon in the 3rd round. He was considered one of the best CBs in college and would of been a 1st round pick before his knee injury. Since we are known for drafting injured players Lattimore, Carradine, Thomas, Reaser, etc. I decided to take Ifo. Rumor is he wont be ready to practice until prolly week 1. We can place him on IR/PUP and see if he can make it back sometime during next year. If not we keep him on IR all season and have him for the 2016 season. Its not we dont already have enough CBs on the roster right now with Brock, Johnson, Ward, Wright, Cook, Acker and Reaser.

Never heard of him but might be worthy in the 4th round or later. Just getting tired of prospects who can't play.

i get the gist and yes it is better to just draft healthy players. But under certain circumstances, it ain't THAT bad a strategy? 'certain circumstances' would include but not be limited to.....having a 'lot' of picks that draft, picking someone in a round when he has solid value, and fits a position for NEXT year's plan. Granted in this strategy you're depending on a medical team that is projecting health.

So far don't think there is enough sampling to draw a reasonable conclusion? Looney, Dial, and Carradine all played, but can't say there were 'solid value' yet? Lattimore obviously didn't pan out. There are some from last season still to show....Thomas, Acker, Ramsey, and Millard.

Taiwan Jones ILB MSU

STRENGTHS
Outstanding size and durability. Card-carrying tough guy with take-on traits. Looks to own the middle of the field. Happy to strike a heavy blow on offensive linemen drifting to second level. Play strength to redirect off a block and leverage gap. Heat-seeking missile as A-gap blitzer, jolting centers and/or running backs while inverting pocket. Wrap-up finisher with unexpected closing speed for his size. Well-respected leader. Moved from outside to inside linebacker and made front adjustments during 2014 season.
WEAKNESSES
Stiff, with limited change of direction in small spaces. Not very instinctive. Plays through a straw rather than with feel. Slow to see and trigger, struggling to beat offensive linemen over the top. Still learning pursuit angles from inside. Liability in man coverage and slow to drop with depth in zone. Below-average ball skills and came off field on passing downs.
NFL COMPARISON
Nico Johnson
BOTTOM LINE
Physically imposing "Hulk smash" linebacker with outstanding power and toughness but a lack of instincts essential to the position. Jones' coverage limitations could be mitigated by his ability to thump and blitz as a 3-4 inside linebacker next to a more instinctive chaser. At worst, Jones is a backup linebacker and core special-teams player.

Davis Tull OLB Tennessee-Chatanooga OLB

STRENGTHS
Four-year starter. Outstanding production and works as hard from snap to snap as any defensive lineman in this draft. Plays stronger than his listed weight. Stays square against the run and leverages his run gaps. Plus hand-eye coordination. Has what scouts call "snap-winning" hand usage against run or pass. Relentless in pursuit. Frenetic off snap, giving tackles darting movement inside and out. Has power and toughness to set the edge and turn plays back inside. Leverage rusher who can dip shoulder and turn corner as well as bull-rush weaker tackles. Has lightning-quick spin move but needs to sharpen technique when using it. Held his own against Tennessee this year with a sack and two tackles for loss.
WEAKNESSES
Marginal upfield burst by NFL standards. Needs to instill more fear around the edge to open up room for his inside moves. Short arms. Long tackles can get to his chest and divert his rush track. Racked up gaudy stats against inferior competition. Average athlete with average size. Won with great hands and effort, but athletic NFL tackles could stymie those traits. Too small to play defensive end and has limited experience standing up.
NFL COMPARISON
Dan Skuta
BOTTOM LINE
Tull uses smarts, skill and toughness to dominate his level of competition. Tull has the athleticism to play outside linebacker in an odd front and his relentless nature and ability to outplay expectations could make him an NFL surprise.

Robert Myers Tennesse State OG

STRENGTHS
Has good thickness and strength through lower body. Flashes desired functional strength with ability to anchor against bull rushers. Footwork is a plus and stays balanced in pass protection. Sound technician and recognizes D-line games. Initial punch has some juice behind it. Good body control and knee bend. Gets movement at point of attack when asked to drive block. Well-timed climb to second level. Will look for work downfield and hustles to trail play. Tough player with above-average strength for his size and a frame to add more weight.
WEAKNESSES
Average lateral athlete. Needs better understanding of angles and positioning as zone blocker. Not overly quick and tends to lose contact on outside runs. Loses strength when hands slide out too wide. Below average change of direction to strike moving targets on second level. Lacks muscle in his arms and has a soft midsection. Must prove he can handle faster, stronger competition.
BOTTOM LINE
Myers is already above average from a technical standpoint and is a quick processor when the game speeds up. Myers is a guard prospect who can pull and play in a power scheme. He has the pass protection traits of an NFL starter. The ceiling is higher for Myers than many guard prospects in this draft, and with more coaching and work in the weight room, he should be an NFL starter.

Shaq Mason Georgia Tech OG

STRENGTHS
One of the most powerful drive blockers in the 2015 draft. Comes off ball with low pad level and wide base and routinely wins leverage game. Snaps hips under him at contact, standing defensive tackles up. Runs feet through contact, looking to bury his man. Salty and tough. Strength is his calling card. Moves well in space and climbs to second level under control. Able to sustain blocks for several yards downfield when his balance is right. Good knee bend in pass sets with ability to mirror. Keeps weight balanced throughout pass set with desired posture. Above-average hand fighter in pass pro and able to reset hands when they are knocked away.
WEAKNESSES
Short guard with short arms. Lets his hands get a little wide in pass sets, making his lack of length more distressing. Takes inconsistent angles to targets on zone runs, causing him to fall off of some blocks. Forward-leaner susceptible to balance issues at contact. Inconsistent with cut blocks, despite high number attempted at Georgia Tech. Rarely asked to sustain pass protection very long. Faced very few skilled interior pass rushers.
BOTTOM LINE
Powerful player with an ability to drive defenders off their spot with leg drive and then torque and finish with strong hands and upper body. Lack of height and arm length could hurt his draft standing a little bit, but his elite power trait as run blocker and solid pass-protection technique make him a future starter at right guard in the NFL.

Senquez Golson Mississippi CB

STRENGTHS
Outstanding competitor with plus ball skills. Production was off the charts in 2014. Had 9 interceptions and 16 pass deflections. Explosive through lower body. Instinctive. Can twitch and trigger to break on the ball. Can mirror in space and closes down passing windows. Plays with smooth hips and good balance. Can open hips to turn and run and has good top-end speed. Willing and effective against the run. Maintains leverage against the run and can disengage to make aggressive tackle when necessary. Has good eye discipline and can focus on his man and the quarterback at the same time.
WEAKNESSES
Worked primarily in zone and off-man coverage. Needs to show NFL evaluators that he can get in a receiver's pocket and stay there from press-man. Might be considered too small to play outside in the NFL. Three of his four touchdowns allowed came against receivers 6-foot-4 or taller. Smallish frame combined with aggressive tackling could lead to durability concerns.
SOURCES TELL US
"He has that love of football we look for. He turned down big money as a baseball player to lock in on football, and he plays with passion and with explosive talent." -- AFC South regional scout
NFL COMPARISON
Brent Grimes
BOTTOM LINE
Golson has the twitch, ball skills and instincts to be an outstanding cornerback in the NFL. Despite playing so much zone in college, there is no reason to believe he can't transition to any coverage asked of him. He's well put-together, but his lack of height could force some teams to view him as a slot-only corner. Golson has Pro Bowl potential.

Lorenzo Doss Tulane CB

STRENGTHS
Smooth trigger with limited stall at the top of his backpedal when firing forward. Can gather himself quickly to change direction. Takes few false steps and is able to sink hips and hit brakes quickly when called on. Former high school wide receiver with reliable hands and outstanding balls skills. Looks to attack the throw as often as he can and is rarely outmuscled on 50/50 balls. Has 15 career interceptions in three years, including two for touchdowns in 2013. Above-average instincts and feel for what quarterback will look for on third down. Athletic with the hips and feet to act on instincts and ball skills. Called a "workaholic" by teammates. Plays through pain and rarely misses practice.
WEAKNESSES
Fell in love with the "big play" after 2013 and took too many chances in 2014. Desire to challenge every throw leads to undisciplined, lazy technique at times. Plays tall in backpedal. Takes aggressive, high-risk angles in attempt to undercut throws and make the interception. Will likely always be a feast or famine cornerback as a pro. Gets too committed to recover effectively against a double move. Relies on grabbing and downfield mauling that won't be allowed in NFL. Atrocious outing vs. Rutgers, giving up six catches for 162 yards and three touchdowns. Inconsistent play speed on tape. Inconsistent demeanor in run support. Can be bullied by bigger wide receivers at the point of attack.
NFL COMPARISON
Buster Skrine
BOTTOM LINE
Doss is a thin but functionally strong cornerback with an overriding desire to compete for every ball thrown his way, which led to 33 passes defensed and 15 interceptions during his three-year stint at Tulane. He wasn't challenged very often in 2014 and his long speed will be revealed in his workouts, but his ball skills and ability to flip the field should gain him additional attention from general managers

Ray McDonald was an injured player who fell as a result. Not Baalke (so far as we know), but when considering the strategy in general, we should consider him. Great value for that pick.
