I also think they will move up to get the receiver that they covet. I hope it's Matthews or Latimore. Niners will probably use pick #61 for another CB or maybe some pass rush help with the uncertainty surrounding Aldon Smith.

Who?

I think we need to combine our later picks to get more in the 2nd/3rd if possible

Sure, and I expect we will. But in the second round, late-3rd rounders and 4th rounders let you make bigger jumps. Adding the 94th pick to the 65th would allow us to move up 12 or 13 spots. Combine the 77th and the 129th, and we can almost get into the second. If we don't trade for 2015 picks, I'd like to see us make five picks in the top-100. That's where this draft can have a real impact going forward, fleshing out our roster with talented youngsters to take over in a couple years.

thing is... we could've drafted someone we liked and not be riled up on potentially missing Ward...

ughhhh

Baalke got who HE liked. There's several reports out that the front office didn't like the round 1 corners a ton and after Baalke couldn't trade to get Beckam he obviously didn't believe any of the receivers would have a bigger impact than Ward.

People would have liked to get a WR, but when you look at things from Baalke's point of view the Ward selection makes a ton of sense. A 3rd WR isn't going to see the field nearly as much as a nickel CB (Ward) is going to. The team knows they need help covering slot WR's as it was one of our biggest weaknesses on defense and maybe the #1 weakness.

People are worried about when Crab leaves in 2015, but if we're trying to win NOW we need a guy that's going to play a ton and not someone that's sitting behind Crab, Boldin, and maybe Patton. We could definitely use a corner, but the team has a ton of faith in Brock and Culliver as evidenced with the contract given to Brock and the extension they were working on with Cully before he screwed up. If they have that faith then they don't see themselves needing a new starting corner. They'd like to get depth and someone to develop, but they weren't going to use a round 1 pick for a bench guy.

2014 is the last run for the current core group of players and the front office knows it.

We have to trade picks and either move up this year or get picks next year

Marqise Lee reportedly "flunked" several teams physicals with that knee.

Jimmy Kempski:

Two things noted at like 3am last night, but worth mentioning again:
(1) Forget Dion Jordan. (2) Brandon Graham will probably be traded.

Ian Rapoport:

The #Falcons tried to move up for Dee Ford, I imagine at No. 22 when the Eagles traded with the Browns for #JFF. Chiefs grabbed him at 23

I thank God they didn't get him.

I'm only getting a chance to watch all of ESPN's coverage of last night's draft right now but once again NFL Network is the better watch by a considerable margin in my opinion. It's ridiculous to me that Ray Lewis made the cut to be up on their stage this year. What could have been for ESPN............

According to John Gambadoro:

Don Banks, Charley Casserly, Daniel Jeremiah, and Mel Kiper got 5 picks correct in their final 1st round mock draft.

Charles Davis, Mike Mayock, and Todd McShay got 4 correct.

Doug Farrar got 2 right.

----------

I had 7. I'm sure there were many other mock people who had more than that right but I haven't had time to look for more.

Deadspin:

ESPN mentioned Johnny Manziel tonight more times than the top five draft picks combined
