Especially with them putting the @Redskins game in primetime.

You know the real reason is they got to make sure it's a much east of the Rockies as possible.

NFL wary of putting Seahawks home games in prime-time due to recent blowouts

The Seattle Seahawks will host the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, Sept. 4 for the kickoff of the 2014 NFL season. However, it’s the only time this year the defensive Super Bowl champions will be at home for a nationally televised prime-time game.

The Seahawks have four prime-time games on their schedule this season. But after the season opener against the Packers, Seattle has to play on the road for their remaining three nationally televised games. The Washington Redskins host the Seahawks on Monday Night Football in Week 5. The Seahawks play in San Francisco against the 49ers on Thanksgiving night in Week 13, and will travel to face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday Night Football in Week 16. The latter two games will be televised on NBC.

According to a league source, the NFL was wary of putting Seahawks home games on in prime-time due to their track record of blowouts in nationally televised games played in Seattle the last several seasons.

The last three times Seattle has hosted a prime-time matchup, the games have been extremely uncompetitive. The Seahawks hammered the divisional-rival 49ers 42-13 and 29-3 in Sunday night game the last two seasons. They also beat the New Orleans Saints 34-7 on Monday night in December.

In addition, Seattle beat the Philadelphia Eagles 31-14 at home on Thursday night in 2011. The only close game played against the Seahawks in prime-time in Seattle the last three seasons was the 14-12 loss by the Packers in Sept. 2012 that ended on a somewhat memorable play.

While Seattle fans surely enjoyed those outcomes, the theoretically highly compelling games turned out to be duds to a national audience.

The Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles all host three prime-time games in 2014. Fifteen more teams host two prime-time games. The defending champion Seahawks only get one at home.

So while the Seahawks still get plenty of national exposure as defending champions should with four scheduled nationally televised games, they won’t get the chance to host more than their season opener in the friendly confines of CenturyLink Field.

I seem to have a fuzzy memory of a primetime game recently played at the Clink that came down to a last second tipped interception but I guess that was all a dream.

So I guess the Hawks are just too good at home, huh? Fine with me, though I'll put a hefty wager down that if both teams are vying for the playoffs/#1 seed/the division in week 15 SF @Seattle game will be bumped to primetime. By that time the NFL will be licking its chops for another SF/SEA bloodbath at the loudest stadium in sports.

Prime time games are overrated. I'd much rather not wait 7 hours to see my team play.

Starting this year, 2 SNF games can be flexed starting week 5 through week 10.

Week 11 to end of season, they can flex as many SNF as they want.

Hopefully we get one more.

Funny, I don't think the Patriots or Colts ever were told they could only play their prime time games on the road because they were too good at Gillette and Lucas Stadium for all those seasons. Their reasoning is pretty weak.

It's a lame excuse but that doesn't mean they can't get flex into the Sunday night spot.

It's lame reasoning, but I'm not worried about it. As others have said, there's still the potential for games to be flexed to Sunday Night as the season goes on and even if things stay as they are it's fine. As long as the Seahawks keep winning I don't care when they play or what channel they're on.

You know what's better than tailgating for 5 hours before going to a football game?

Tailgating for 10 hours before going to a football game.

Am I the only one thats a little upset about this? So we cant have primetime games in seattle because we blow the teams we face? This is ridiculous im taking this like the league is punishing us for winning...

I agree with you JDM. I don't really care about the status of playing in prime time, I would rather see them play early then late.

I think I heard on KJR today that the Hawks have won the last 8 primetime home games dating back to 2007 and 7 of the 8 were by 10 points are more. The only close game was the one vs the Packers in 2012.

This is a really good point that I hadn't thought about. We'll definitely get flexed to our 5th game at some point

Screw prime time. I'd rather have zero prime time games outside of possibly Sunday night. MNF sucks and so does Thursday. It forces the team to rest less. I feel really bad for those teams that have to do the stupid London crap.

Just schedule all 16 games at the usual time, that's my vote. Prime time is just a money grab anyway - it makes zero sense from a football perspective.
