Series Thread: Rangers Travel to Minnesota for 4 Games August 24-27

Sir Robin Of Camelot

You seem angry. Miserable, even.

How do you strike out 2 guys in a row and then can't throw the ball over the plate. What a mental case.
Problem is he didn’t throw a ball over the plate in either strikeout. All the Twins had to do was stop swinging. Hernandez did the rest.

How does what was the best offense in baseball suddenly go stone cold? Since the all star break this team has consistently shut down after 3rd or 4th inning and it isn’t 1 hitter it is all 13

With a ghost runner on 2nd and 0 outs, bunt the ball and move the runner to 3rd. Not complicated Bochy.

Crazy, isn’t it? But that first half is what I was referring to when I said they aren’t THIS bad of a team. You’re absolutely right that they were once the best offense in baseball. For the last 2 weeks, a bottom-3 one. This season is as Saddles said earlier- a tale of two extremes. A very good baseball team slumping to an unwatchable one.

They were 4 for 34 with runners in scoring position. Terrible.

That is what I posted earlier. Why? There is a reason other than being in a funk.

Hopefully the offense gets a lot better against the Mets.

Really hard to say, since none of us are in that locker room.

I will say, though, that the power of the mind is an incredible thing in sports. Teams and players can go through periods of insanely good performance where confidence is at an all-time high, things just seem to work at every turn, wins seem easy to come by, and it just feeds itself. There have been so many times in the past when the Rangers went through long winning streaks where the players even commented in the postgame interview that they always believe they will find a way to win.

I think the opposite is happening now. They believe in their minds they can’t succeed, they suck, nothing will go right, and they will find a way to lose. And they do. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Look to Steve Sax, Chuck Knoblauch, and Rick Ankiel. All 3 were great at their positions, and then suddenly because of a complete mental problem, they couldn’t even throw a baseball as well as a child.

The mental side of the game is a crazy, scary, and amazing thing. And right now the Rangers couldn’t be any lower.

The owners have a right to know what is going on and I hope they seriously look into the reaon or reasons.

yeah but remember, they're actually a good team
I think they have the makings of a really good team but they lack maturity and poise.

Re Pen
JHern is a talent but he looks like he pitches afraid. Putting guys like him and Speas in high pressure is a lot to ask

Hopefully only growing pains

Will agree to this. What we did in first show we can wrong blowouts —- we proved zilch that we can win close games

Going into next year, I think we need several additions. This time be smart about it. Go with the prospects we have in AA and AAA who look like they may be able to help. Pursue only free agents and trades for the positions you don't have prospects available for. Don't spend for spending's sake. Spend to fill holes you cannot fill from our upper levels.

I would like for them to bring some up on September 1st and sit Jankowski.

I wasn't able to watch it. I just saw the results. I mean you walk Gallo who is below the Mendoza line that is complete incompetence. And the thing that drives me crazy is he has the stuff.

2 balls to Gallo and he needs a mound visit

Yeah, that's not going to happen. It was hard enough to get them to play younger guys last year.
