The Broncos were built to beat these Patriots. The can pass rush from the middle of the line - they are tall and fast - Broncos have the top pass defense - and they run the ball for explosive plays.

That's what has me nervous. The pass rush and DEN's running game. But the thing that scares me the most is having to play in Denver. That has been a house of horrors for the Pats for a looooong time.

I would say the same about Manning, except the Pats wouldn't want to see him leave the game.

There's no "there" there. Kannell was an "off the couch" QB for the Broncos and started just one or two games. His connection to the Broncos by a New England area media outlet is an atrocious bit of journalism. Much like most Boston-area sports media.

The Broncos plus 3.5 seems like a very good bet to me. These Broncos will play it close - that is just - historically what they do - the Broncos are proven finishers - take the finishers at home.
Sure hope you make up for the money you lost last week betting on the Chiefs and taking the points!

After thinking about it, Kannell's advice is actually a great idea - not to injure Tom Brady, but to make him wonder every time he drops back if he is going to get hit anyways, even if he releases before a defender is close to him. Get in his head. I hope we do that a couple of times early. Will love seeing Brady sporting the "Philip Rivers Pouty Face".

Two other strategies I hope we employ vs. the Pats' offense are: have the D-line get their hands up and try to bat some balls down at the LOS; and, have a DB or LB freed up on some plays to try to get a pick on routes coming across the middle of the field.

Even with the Number 1 Defense in the league, the Broncos are going to have to use all of their tricks to try to stop this Belichick/Brady post-season offense from lighting them up. Game plan will be key.

Have to figure that getting it done in the trenches will be key. I feel pretty good that defensive front is up to the task. Hope that the o-line is too.

Honestly as another poster had said I am actually starting to get a bit more confident in this game. Listening to the players talk this week not sure I have heard them have this kind of energy and focus. Big Al yesterday was talking about how the practices leading up to our first Super Bowl victory he said that week of practice and especially the last one players were so focused on the task at hand that it just seemed like the ball never hit the ground and that they were so pumped up they ended practice early. Well that is exactly what happened on Friday with our team where they had that same kind of focus and great practice.

Also went back and watched that Chiefs/Patriots game. After rewatching the game all I can say is what the heck were the Chiefs trying to do? If you have the chance to go back and watch the game look who is covering Edelman on that 1st drive. It is not a secondary player. On quite a few of Edelman's catches it was Dee Ford of all people a pass rusher dropping back to try and cover Edelman in that middle zone spot. I mean that was like Del Rio trying to cover Gronk with Von Miller. You are using the player to their greatest weakness at that point.

Now if it were me I would have man coverage across the board and then have Darian Stewart in single high safety coverage with then Trevathan and Marshall playing the robber zone position in the middle. I mean all Tom Brady did all day was attack the middle of the Chiefs defense and they just seemed to have no answer to the slant routes. Flood those slant routes and Make Brady beat us throwing to the outside edges.

2 more observations from the game. The Chiefs had 0 pressure up the middle. The Patriots game plan actually reminded me of the 2012 playoffs against the Ravens. They forced Von Doom to rush to the outside cutting off any spin move back to the middle and because we didn't have any pass rushers up the middle all Flacco had to do was step up in the pocket. Well that is exactly what Brady did. To me Wolfe and Jackson are the ones that have to have a great game more so than Miller and Ware. If they can get pressure up the middle then really good chance we force Brady to maybe make a mistake.

Final observation and this goes to the offensive side of the ball. The Chiefs actually had a lot of success running the ball. The Patriots have shown to be a bit streaky in this area. For the Chiefs it seemed like that left side is where they really struggled. The nice thing for us is our best run blockers have been on the left side of the line this year. If I were the Broncos I would attack the crap out of the left side and force the Patriots to really have to commit more to the run game plus slow down their pass rushers worrying about the run game.

I apologize. I honestly could have kept going. Been sick with a nasty cough that won't let me sleep plus been on call for EMT so can't really take the meds that put you to sleep so stayed up watching the Chiefs/Patriots game a couple of times. I will say in watching the game our OL is going to have to have their best day of the year. Man Alex Smith was running for his life. Obviously if Manning has to do that then we are screwed.

Good post. I particularly like your point about how the DL needs to have a big game.

Thanks...I shouldn't say the Chiefs got 0 pressure up the middle. They had about 3-4 plays that they were able to generate some pressure. It was on those plays that Brady made some bad decisions. Honestly the Chiefs dropped 4 interceptions from my count in that game and a lot of those plays happened because of pressure right in his face. When he can't step into his throw he becomes very inconsistent.

I think big games from Wolfe, Williams. Jackson, Smith, Walker, etc. are just what we need.
