I don't think this should be about marketing leave the marketing for games like the WC.I'm more concerned with the officiating bias throughout the playoffs.Refs have had far to much influence in several series and its terrible.Teams should earn the cup not be force fed into it JMO

Listen, we all have problems with the referees' inconsistencies in calls, but in no way do I think they have an agenda to get certain teams to advance. The tin foil hat crowd should have recognized that as soon as Briere's goal against Pittsburgh wasn't called off-sides.

The teams are earning it; no one has won a series that they didn't deserve.

Attendance
2007: 95.4%
2008: 102.6%
2009: 98.9%
2010: 88.3%
2011: 85.8%
2012: 86.4%

It worked until they lost Pronger and stopped making the playoffs. It's not enough for these new franchises to go the distance or win a Stanley Cup; they have to maintain certain standards of excellence. Think back to Colorado and the perpetual 18,007 crowd. They could fill up for 487 consecutive games when they were good, but once they started missing the playoffs, they dropped to 13,947 on average.

They should move the Ducks to Atlanta.

Wish I could say that was true but calling penalties that shouldnt be called not only give the benefiting team a chance to score but disrupt the other teams flow. And I have seen A lot of blatant non calls result in goals the other way shortly after the play in question.Don't get me wrong I'm not just talking about todays game the officials inconsistancies have had a major impact in several series.Teams should decide games not the men in stripes

From a business perspective it is great for the NHL.
From a personal fan perspective....it is fucking bullshit.

I'm bias though. :)

They should let Marty go out in style with a cup win.
I think he would be a great ambassador for the NHL

Marty can win the Veznia as the losing goalie.
I think Quick and Marty are the most entertaining goalies right now. The diving sprawling save is much better than the stand there and hope it hits me save.

But it's more coincidence than anything - not some nefarious plot against small market teams. Look at the 2009 Ducks/Wings series: The referees botched two calls in net-mouth scrambles at the ends of games - one benefiting Detroit and one benefiting Anaheim.

They're not evil; they just miss things sometimes because they don't have a bird's eye view of the ice.

The reactive save is way better than the go down cover the bottom of the net robot save and play the percentages.

Yes some luck may come at times but to track the puck and be able to make some of those reactive saves is what makes your jaw drop.

It's gotten worse since then and it shouldnt take a birds eye view to see a high stick or an elbow to the head and thats in just one period
