About the possibility of a New York vs L.A. final. Two largest markets in the NHL must be their wet dream.

Just wondering what other posters think of this. Does it really matter?

I agree. Bettman and company probably don't mind it too much either.

I think Bettman and Co. must be loving this. New York is a huge market, obviously, and a hockey market.

LA is obviously a huge market but not really a hockey market. A trip to the finals and a potential Cup could significantly increase the market share of the NHL in the LA market.

Good point and that's why I asked. The Kings are playing great but will that increase interest in other markets?

BTW, I'm not counting the Devils out.

Well considering the "missed" calls in the in the game, I think the refs are pushing for it.

Yeah, I think the NHL would want the two hottest markets because of media coverage.

From a business perspective it is great for the NHL.
From a personal fan perspective....it is fucking bullshit.

I'm bias though. :)

They should let Marty go out in style with a cup win.
I think he would be a great ambassador for the NHL

I don't know, it didn't seem like Anahiem's Cup win did a whole lot for that franchise. Is their attendance way up, are their ratings up? I know the league thinks LA-NY is where it's at, but would it really be any better than Chicago-Philly or Detroit-Pittsburgh?

I don't think this should be about marketing leave the marketing for games like the WC.I'm more concerned with the officiating bias throughout the playoffs.Refs have had far to much influence in several series and its terrible.Teams should earn the cup not be force fed into it JMO

Agree with you here but in the back of my mind I think they look at it as NHL is a business first and foremost and want to do what best for the business any way they can....just saying and this is my 0.02.

This is what I fear I would really hate to see the league sacrifice its integrity and become the NBA

Attendance
2007: 95.4%
2008: 102.6%
2009: 98.9%
2010: 88.3%
2011: 85.8%
2012: 86.4%

It worked until they lost Pronger and stopped making the playoffs. It's not enough for these new franchises to go the distance or win a Stanley Cup; they have to maintain certain standards of excellence. Think back to Colorado and the perpetual 18,007 crowd. They could fill up for 487 consecutive games when they were good, but once they started missing the playoffs, they dropped to 13,947 on average.
