Are they going to spend $20M to keep their guys out of the draft again this year?
It's the smart thing to do if you have the budget. Michigan did it last year*

The playing field is even now in a sense. The best recruits are still mainly in the south and in Cali but now the SEC can't pay them under the table. We are going to see a shift, like the last two years, even the south still has the best players some of these huge B1G schools have big budgets and they can spend more on NIL. Huge boosters and huge fan base that support their school and team. Teams like Penn St, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio St will have an advantage over most of these SEC schools. Texas and A&M will likely always have big budgets...oil money. Texas huge alumni and boosters too. Shit, Brian Kelly had to donate $1M of his salary to NIL. The SEC won't keep up with some of these big northern schools but they still have some sort of advantage being in an area with the star powered recruits.

Ohio St will always have a big budget and they added to it with all this revenue for these last four games. The fact is Texas and Oregon paid more in NIL money and they took them both down.

Nothing like logging in to work and finding out you forgot you are on vacation this week.

Logged back out with the quickness.

Dang.

Must be rough

I don’t think I have ever forgotten that!

The hard sell is they have no eligibility so need to sell NCAA on rules.

Only guy who might need to be sold I can think of is Judkins. I think with a title he leaves.

I didn't mean the same guys coming back as last year, just continuing the effort with this year's potential draftees (like Judkins). I agree though, with a title in hand it's a tougher sell.

Michigan did it last year? They lost 14 players to the 2024 draft and I believe 6 more as UDFAs.

Money spent on NIL is one thing, but that NIL money that is pulling players back from entering the draft is a bit different. Not bad in any way, just a different approach. Most D1 teams will be chasing transfers with NIL money as the mad shuffle starts over each year, not to mention chasing high school recruits. If the NCAA really wanted a balanced playing field, they would put an annual limit on NIL money, but we all know it's about the big teams and power conferences, not equality.

Ok this is very hard to believe, but apparently there is a real chance that Ohio States def coordinator Knowles is coming to OU. He has a long time girlfriend that lives in Oklahoma and they are getting married this year. She has a kid still in school here. Rumor is he actually reached out to Venables a while back. I would prefer spending the money on the other side of the ball since Venables is here for defense but not the kind of deal you turn down if it falls in your lap. I suspect Venables has been told he has to be more of a head coach.

I'm not used to having to put in my annual vacation for the upcoming year at the end of the previous year. I've always preferred to do things like use 2 days on a Friday and Monday for a 4-day weekend. I did take note of when my next week off is and saved it to my calendar. lol

Does his wife (nancy) and three kids (halle, luke & jack) know about this?

article- who is OSU co-coordinator Jim Knowles? family, contract and more (1/12/25)

I was saying during the game last night if Knowles leaves for a HC job thank you and best of luck. Of course I hope he stays in Columbus.

You should have got the Willie Nelson kind, but from what Snoop says no one can hang with Willie.

I have been hoping Willie's signature strain will return to CO. but so far haven't seen it. A couple of summers ago it was in Denver but sold out before I could get some.

I did that with Fridays for nearly the last 4 months of 2024. I don't travel, so burning 5 weeks vacation can be a challenge at times. Taking a full week off at a time doesn't work unless we're shut down, since I don't really have a back up and I just have a mountain of work waiting for me when I come back if I do.

Yeah, I rarely go anywhere and on those few occasions that I do, it's usually someplace that I don't really need a whole week for.

Not even sure who could go this year. Seems like most don't have a decision to make. Either no eligibility to play, not eligible to go and/or not good enough to want to go yet.

Just going by what that article said. It's not even two weeks old. Guess they got it wrong?

Anyway like i said I'd be surprised if he doesn't get offered multiple HCing jobs and leave Columbus. OK would be a great place for him.
