I thought the players association got that changed after the LeVeon Bell situation with Pittsburgh?
If I’m wrong then Barkley has to bend over like a bitch and sign the tender. Then he just needs to nurse a bunch of soft tissue injuries and walk next season.

What sucks for 1st round rbs is the team gets that extra year on ya. By the time you hit FA they can tag you twice. at that point you're in year 7.

Kinda seems like the answer is only allowing players to be tagged once and possibly acknowledging RBs short window and giving them one less year on a rookie deal. But then of course the player has to be really confident in themselves.

Disagree with some of this. Primarily, athletes are usually paid based on past performance not estimated future performance. Agree on the bugaboo presented at RB though.

baseball is practically all past performance and almost none of the mega deals are worth it in the end.

I thought that was also changed after Bell? No? I don’t know what world I’m living in. The NFLPA has to be the worst players union in the world that they would allow for the tag to still be used in back to back years. I thought that was done away with as a result of what the Redskins did to Kirk Cousins.

I must be way off.

Well,,, you see they can franchise him a 2nd year but he wouid get a 20 percent bump. They can then franchise him a 3rd year but it would take a much bigger bump. No doubt the system is rigged but when it is you have to make the best of it. He will report at some point.

Holy shit! That’s fucked. The NFLPA is the worst. That union is just stealing money.

everything I've seen is he can be tagged twice and doing that he'd make more guaranteed by being tagged than what the Giants offered.

It's both.

On the "rookie contract" they are generally paid based on where they were drafted. Where they were drafted tells us what the expected impact is. But at this point, no one knows how they will respond to being pros. That's partially why limits have been placed on rookie deals. So that's mainly based on future performance.

How they progress on that rookie deal helps to determine their next deal, but a large part of that deal is determined by whether or not they believe the player will continue to work hard and improve. That's why when a guy gets his first "bag"...we're all on here saying "okay, let's see what he does now that he got paid".

Subsequent contracts are when we see guys being paid more based on their past performances as much as anything...leading up to the final couple of years their last contract when, in most cases, it's pretty much entirely based on past performances. Kobe's final contract being a good example of that.

With RB's, the first deal is usually when they perform their best because they aren't all beat up yet.

I went to school with this guy. Little memory of him other than a teacher chewing him out once but I know people who were close to him. He probably ought to go away at least 10 or 20 years. The fact that he owns the property I would think pins quite a bit of culpability on him.

I don’t understand how people fall through the cracks like this. I am so angry. Both these “adults” have supportive family who live near the area. It’s not like their closest relatives are hundreds or thousands of miles away.

And some aren’t going to like hearing this because “The War On Drugs“ is awful and everything but many, perhaps the majority of illegal drug users are not in a condition to parent special needs children.

His cap hit is $11M already, he just took restructure and signing bonuses already. He just restructured in March to convert 11.8M in salary to signing bonus.

Besides, that's what happens when you sign a 6 year contract, one side or the other is unhappy by the end of it.

Doesn’t change the fact that he’s woefully underpaid. He’s arguably a top 3 guard in the NFL.

Like I said, that's the peril of signing a 6 year contract. He just pulled a considerable amount forward with that signing bonus restructure. He wants another restructure 3 months later? I would guess he would be due for one this winter.

The Cowboys wanted the restructure to free up cap space for the good of the team. It is a rare occurrence though that he wouldn’t have demanded more years and more up front money for renegotiating. Somebody on his end screwed up here.
