I don't understand the logic honestly. Same goes for the Tigers. When they spent like crazy they had substantial more fan support. Sure maybe at the end of the day the take home was less than it is to tank. But if you're in the business of owning a sports franchise you should not be using it as a means for year to year income. It's about building wealth.
Exactly...if you want year to year income fowning a sports team might not be the best option (OK, maybe NFL, as a license to print money).

And I happen to agree with Scott Boran who said they are not losing money due to Covid, but they are losing some of their profits. Even when the Indians spent in 2017-18 according to Forbes they had operating income of $25-30 mil.

If I can pick the guy who owns a team I cheer for give me obscene will to win first, followed by willingness to let successful FO/coach do their job.

Anyone got any shows on Netflix to recommend? Just got done watching Alice in Borderland which is pretty dope, definitely recommend. Feel like I've watched all the big stuff people have talked about: Queens Gambit, Ozark, Last Kingdom, Money Heist, etc.

Just watched Power (on Hulu, though) and liked it. Started Hannibal and seems pretty good. Another older one I loved was Breaking Bad

Also rewatched 24 as I never saw half the seasons...even enjoyed ones I had already seen. Highly recommend if you never saw it when it was on Fox.

What is Borderland about?

I loved 24. Jack Bauer is the man.

For Alice in Borderland the premise is that all these people find themselves in a completely abandoned Tokyo and they have to participate in games to survive. They have no idea why they're there, only that they have to fight for their own survival. It's not really gory like saw, it's more psychological and thriller type show. There's an actual story line going on and people are trying to figure out what's happening.

It's Japanese based, but it's dubbed over in English like Money Heist. So no need for subtitles.

Again it's dubbed in English, but the trailer is pretty on point with what to expect throughout the show.

Lindor deal expected and I've learned to trust our FO as they usually do well in deals like this. They acquired lesser known guys at time like Kluber and Clevinger in these deals. Also acquired Brantley as a PTBNL (though whiffed on the big fish, Laporta, in that deal), Carrasco, Sizemore, Santana, Gomes, etc.

But sickening they had a contending team and took payroll down from around $133 mil a few years ago to currently less than $40 mil. Can they spend like NY/LA? Nope. But really too much to ask they be league avg. in a contending window?

Yeah that is the thing.

No small market team should ever be expected to spend with the big boys. Lindor and Ramirez were always going to end up on another team at some point, but damn.

When you have the horses that Cleveland had, you have to willing to spend a little over the normal budget for a couple years to win. It could be 30 years before Cleveland assembles another core with that much talent.

Nope, I wanted to but never had the network it was on. I only have Netflix, HBO Max and Showtime at the moment. Probably will cancel HBO max soon, not enough shows I want to watch.

Don't I know it. They were 4 deep with stud SPs - Bauer, Clevinger, Carrasco, Civale...also have McKenzie. Only Bauer will make huge money somewhere. Had Kluber, too, but his arm might be shot and cannot blame them for dumping him.

They could have kept Brantley and added a guy like Osuna and still been $10 mil LESS than their 2017-18 payroll last season. Now they'll be $100 mil less. Luckily Ramirez singed one of the most team friendly deals in the sport.

You have to think he gets dealt sometime this year too though, right?

I know his deal is team friendly, but if he doesn’t fit your current window they should deal him. They would get a prospect haul for sure.

My bad. Thought it was on Netflix. But it's on Amazon. Pretty sure Amazon offers a free trial if you want to check it out. Has some of the greatest fight scenes I've ever seen.

Have you seen Cobra Kai? My son and I just binge watched Season 3. We didn't intend to. We started watching it and the next thing we knew, we had finished it. lol

Based on what they got for Lindor, not sure this is the best time to look for a prospect haul. some decent middle infielders you can get for just money as opposed to dealing away prospects. Still 2 years after the upcoming season at a very reasonable price if they want to move him later.

So frustrating as they were a legit contender, have a top FO and manager and pissed away a contending window. And, yeah, what he says is not gospel but think Boras nailed it when he said something to the effect of "the owners are not losing money, they are losing profit" because of Covid.

Cannot recall if I saw season 3. Is that an older one or did it just come out?

the guy that did Queen's Gambit also did a limited series on Netflix called "Godless". Its just 7 episodes. Its a western. Its really well done as you could expect from the guy that did Queen's Gambit. A "deeper cut" on Netflix but i just watched it and liked it

Honestly--- you would be surprised but The Crown is absolutely excellent. Tons of interesting stuff and history and the acting and production are top notch. i didnt expect to like it nearly as much as I did. Its definitely worth a watch.

Do you have anything else?

HBO Max? tons of stuff

Amazon Prime?--- Jack Ryan was pretty good--- not great...pretty procedural but entertaining. It has Justified on it--- which is an absolutely great show- a little older now but its pretty light and very enjoyable if you arent looking to get too serious- a lot of funny moments too. The Americans is also on there- a little bit of an older show now but excellent.

Hulu?---- Handmaids Tale is depressing as hell but excellent

the next show i want to watch is Yellowstone. I have heard great things but its only on Peacock-- which is bullshit. Might just have to buy it on Prime.
