He also was injured and much of the statistical difference is the result of the rosters Baker has had.

The Browns actually had a roster good enough that they got to the playoffs and won a game. The Browns were also smart enough to realize they had a coach who was in over his head and replaced him after 1 season.

When was the last time the Jets had that?

Herm Edward's? Parcells? Ryan?

You taking any of the Browns coaches the last 2 decades over them?

The ideal move would've been packaging Baker in the Texans trade. Outside of that they were going to be in this predicament regardless.
Yep they had no idea they were getting Watson so Baker was the backup plan from the start

Oh lord.

The guy has had 4 OC's and was coached by Hue and Freddie for 2 years but he's just had the creme de la creme of coaches? Lol
And he was better than Darnold with an average roster in his rookie year

Darnold spent his time with the Jets.

I win.
Sure but he was awful in New york. Baker led the Browns to a playoff victory with no HC and half the roster depleted with covid. If you don’t see even a slight difference I can’t help you

And how good was Baker when he had awful coaches? You don't think the Browns had better coaching and a better roster when they made the playoffs? Baker carried them there all by himself?

If you can't see the difference in what each player has had to work with, I can't help you.

I mean...he set the rookie record for TD passes.

I don’t think that is necessarily true but the Browns were so stupid in what they did it is known they will eat a lot if the salary to end it.
stupid to not trade Baker until they knew they had his replacement or stupid to do exactly what they told Baker and his camp they were doing?

If Darnold is the reason your team is not trading for Mayfield, cut Darnold (or keep him and let them "battle" for the position this summer only to ultimately lose to Baker). Problem solved. That $19M is sunk cost for this season anyway. Let Mayfield try to prove himself while Corral learns on the bench.
Unless they would rather just tank and why add an extra $19 mil to the payroll?

Not much Browns could have done differently....and Texans made it pretty clear they didn't want any players in the deal.

Let’s see how long until Watson plays then we can thoroughly assess the stupidity.

Thing is, at this point, Baker is basically Darnold, only with a lot of noise and baggage. The only real differences between them so far is that Baker has had far better rosters around him and better coaches than Darnold has had.

No reason to bring in a guy who isn't necessarily going to be better than the guy you already have and brings a bunch of distraction along with him.
I mean, I think Baker is much better than darnold. For me the reason not to get him is they are tanking.
