I don’t think that is necessarily true but the Browns were so stupid in what they did it is known they will eat a lot if the salary to end it.

I don't think there's a team out there that would have even considered trading for him if they had to cover all 18m+ of BM's contract.

I think the bigger issue is most can't afford it. I think Carolina would do it if they didn't already have Darnold.

If Darnold is the reason your team is not trading for Mayfield, cut Darnold (or keep him and let them "battle" for the position this summer only to ultimately lose to Baker). Problem solved. That $19M is sunk cost for this season anyway. Let Mayfield try to prove himself while Corral learns on the bench.

The ideal move would've been packaging Baker in the Texans trade. Outside of that they were going to be in this predicament regardless.

If Cleveland is paying a chunk and you have the cap space (the Panthers still have $24.5M).....not so much of a problem IMO.

Obviously at this point the Browns should eat half and stash the other half if they are dealing with Carolina. Guess we will see.

Thing is, at this point, Baker is basically Darnold, only with a lot of noise and baggage. The only real differences between them so far is that Baker has had far better rosters around him and better coaches than Darnold has had.

No reason to bring in a guy who isn't necessarily going to be better than the guy you already have and brings a bunch of distraction along with him.

Oh lord.

The guy has had 4 OC's and was coached by Hue and Freddie for 2 years but he's just had the creme de la creme of coaches? Lol

And with the hyped rookie class of QBs coming in with the draft of 2023, it’s almost detrimental to a team to bring Mayfield on now if they’re unsettled at QB. It’s better that they struggle with a mediocre QB in 2022 to put themselves in the position to draft higher in round 1.

I couldn't fault that approach either.

I'm pretty sure that's why the Seahawks (so far) are willing to go into the upcoming season with Drew Lock as their QB. They have the equity with their fans to get away with a "throw away season" and can likely get a better QB in 2023 than they can now.

But the Jets have won before right? The Browns best team in a generation was lead by Mayfield.

Yeah, they did win Super Bowl 3. lol

Even the Jets coach said he did a shit job coaching Darnold.

I mean sure but the statistical differences are pretty big. Darnold had 3 good games last year and went back to seeing ghosts.

He also was injured and much of the statistical difference is the result of the rosters Baker has had.

The Browns actually had a roster good enough that they got to the playoffs and won a game. The Browns were also smart enough to realize they had a coach who was in over his head and replaced him after 1 season.

When was the last time the Jets had that?
