Neither of those teams are in a hurry to deal, though. That's the thing because the Browns are gonna want some kinda return and they know it...

Yep. The next 2 drafts are said to have some very good QBs in them.

The Seahawks seem content to punt this season by rolling with Geno Smith and Lock, then getting a QB in the next draft. As much as I wouldn't have a problem with it because I like Baker, at this point, I'd be mildly surprised if the Seahawks went after him even if the Browns agreed to pick up part of his salary.

Carolina might eventually cave, but they seem willing to give Darnold a make or break season. Especially if the Browns continue to insist on not picking up part of Bakers salary. Especially since Darnold is set to also be paid $18 million.

This seems like a typical Browns move lol

Uhhh I kinda doubt that, you have to think they would pay half his salary if it meant getting him off the books and the drama out of the building. That being said, I don't think they are in any rush, if a QB gets injured...that team could get a bit desperate.

Another part of this story that makes zero sense is why would they trade Baker before they traded for Watson? They had no clue if they were getting Watson really until the last moment before he signed. That is not something you can plan.

Seems like something that can blow up in their face. Baker has already shown that he isn't afraid to be a distraction which is something the Browns don't need.

If they keep him on the roster, they're going to end up paying at least part of his salary anyway.
Well if he wants a team to view him as a possible franchise or starting QB you think he would keep himself in check. Now if we are a couple weeks away from the NFL season to start and the Browns still have him on the roster....that is where the problem arises. They can essentially keep him hostage but I doubt it comes to that point.

They are likely going to have to pay half of his salary regardless unless like I said a team gets desperate if a QB get injured. Either way paying half his salary isn't bad, that is just $9M they can add to cap carryover next season. Plus they know more than we do, for all that we know they have negotations with several teams but both teams are waiting till the end of FA.

The only reason I can think of that they would be firm in this is if they think Watson is going to be suspended at the start of the season. Then they at least know they have a QB who can help them win some of those games...then, if he plays well, they can actually get something for him.

But if what you said a few days ago about the suspension possibly not happening until 2023 plays out, that takes away that possibility.

The Browns are in a death match with the Seahawks and Panthers trying to save a little money.

We don't know the terms of these deals. If teams are trying to get the Browns to pay his salary and get very little in return in terms of picks there is no reason to not wait until a team inevitably has an injury situation

Not to mention it would just drive up Watsons price to them.

Yeah but you have to think that's why they signed Brissett. I mean did ok in Indy. I still believe Baker will never play another snap in CLE

Yeah, that almost seems like he threw it in there to meet a word count quota or something. lol

Imagine the level of WTF? they'd be facing if they traded Baker and couldn't get the Watson deal done.

The Browns miscalculated the hesitancy to deal for Baker but I think it's just as much on Bakers value as it is the owners putting the screws to Cleveland because of Watsons deal.

Bakers better than Brissette and the Browns have Super Bowl aspirations. They know that they are eventually going to move Baker and would want a good backup in case Watson got hurt.

Plus, could be something of a "double hedge". lol

Hold on to Baker until they know what is happening with Watson and still have a solid backup for when they eventually move Baker.

I forgot about them fully guaranteeing Watsons deal.

Yeah, I can't imagine the other owners are very happy about that. They'll definitely want to make the Browns pay for opening that Pandora's box. lol

What about the dude that threw all those picks?

Didn’t he start with Buffalo?

Peterman or something like that. Can’t remember.

Yep, but he was always a backup with the occasional trial/emergency start. He was great in preseason, but a turnover machine in the games. Raiders snatched him up when the Bills released him lol.

That is my guess, too.......but I do think it's more likely he is here in training camp than either being released or traded in a bad deal (paying most of his salary for a late round pick).

Honestly, I don't owners care that much about our deal with watson...at least when it comes to making trades with us. If they think it can help their team, they wont hesitate to deal with us. Think we made 3-4 deals with teams during the draft.

This.

As long as cleveland goes and gets Clowney back and maybe spends some money on another receiver I'd be content with their offseason given the huge bump both good and bad the Watson deal was.

completely agree about offseason.

I happen to think there's a decent shot Baker is here in camp. way too much is being made about their situation and the drama it might cause.

Berry and stefanski seem like the type (and maybe his agent) IF it came to it who could sit him down and tell him just come in, put your head down and go to work. Either prove he should play over Brissett if watson is out and/or make another team want him.
