Not exactly chump change...One thing is certain, Mayfield will make $18 million this season.

The Browns are in a death match with the Seahawks and Panthers trying to save a little money. Not exactly chump change...
Neither of those teams are in a hurry to deal, though. That's the thing because the Browns are gonna want some kinda return and they know it...The Browns are in a death match with the Seahawks and Panthers trying to save a little money.

Uhhh I kinda doubt that, you have to think they would pay half his salary if it meant getting him off the books and the drama out of the building. That being said, I don't think they are in any rush, if a QB gets injured...that team could get a bit desperate. This seems like a typical Browns move lol

Well if he wants a team to view him as a possible franchise or starting QB you think he would keep himself in check. Now if we are a couple weeks away from the NFL season to start and the Browns still have him on the roster....that is where the problem arises. They can essentially keep him hostage but I doubt it comes to that point.Seems like something that can blow up in their face. Baker has already shown that he isn't afraid to be a distraction which is something the Browns don't need.
If they keep him on the roster, they're going to end up paying at least part of his salary anyway.

Another part of this story that makes zero sense is why would they trade Baker before they traded for Watson? They had no clue if they were getting Watson really until the last moment before he signed. That is not something you can plan.

Yeah but you have to think that's why they signed Brissett. I mean did ok in Indy. I still believe Baker will never play another snap in CLEThe only reason I can think of that they would be firm in this is if they think Watson is going to be suspended at the start of the season. Then they at least know they have a QB who can help them win some of those games...then, if he plays well, they can actually get something for him.
But if what you said a few days ago about the suspension possibly not happening until 2023 plays out, that takes away that possibility.
Not to mention it would just drive up Watsons price to them.
Yeah, that almost seems like he threw it in there to meet a word count quota or something. lol
Imagine the level of WTF? they'd be facing if they traded Baker and couldn't get the Watson deal done.

The Browns miscalculated the hesitancy to deal for Baker but I think it's just as much on Bakers value as it is the owners putting the screws to Cleveland because of Watsons deal.
What about the dude that threw all those picks?
Didn’t he start with Buffalo?
Peterman or something like that. Can’t remember.
What should they say? "Just offer us whatever and he's yours?"This seems like a typical Browns move lol

That is my guess, too.......but I do think it's more likely he is here in training camp than either being released or traded in a bad deal (paying most of his salary for a late round pick).Yeah but you have to think that's why they signed Brissett. Honestly, I don't owners care that much about our deal with watson...at least when it comes to making trades with us. If they think it can help their team, they wont hesitate to deal with us. Think we made 3-4 deals with teams during the draft. The Browns miscalculated the hesitancy to deal for Baker but I think it's just as much on Bakers value as it is the owners putting the screws to Cleveland because of Watsons deal.

completely agree about offseason.This.
As long as cleveland goes and gets Clowney back and maybe spends some money on another receiver I'd be content with their offseason given the huge bump both good and bad the Watson deal was.
