You can argue how bad the NFL owners are, but Kaepernick is his own worst enemy if he's trying to get back in the league. Six months ago he has a Netflix specially literally saying the NFL is slavery, particularly around the draft process. Now, he's trying to get back in as a backup.

Six months ago was after nearly 5 complete seasons blackballed out of the league. Why would he even think any team was going to look at him now? It's an overstatement of course, but has NFL players have easily the worst conditions of the top 4 American team sports.

The idea that there should be any controversy whatsoever is where it becomes being blackballed IMO. I bunch of owners suddenly have strong morals towards the flag that they don't show for women's safety, drug use, etc

None of this has anything to do with Kaepernik.

Institutional racism by the owners, not that it's anything new really.

This is just dumb. A soon to be 35 year old backup quality QB not being wanted because he has actively made a distraction of himself is not institutional racism.

Especially when we just saw a white QB who is a starting quality QB get sent to stand in the corner and wait/hope to be traded, for a more talented black QB because he made too big a distraction of himself.

Virtually anywhere he goes, he would be a bigger story than the starting QB. That's not okay in the NFL and never has been. Regardless of what color his skin is.

Do we also want to get into the top paid QBs? I know last offseason, the top 5 paid QBs in the league were black.

NFL Owners want to win. Kaepernick, the last we saw him, he was in a tight competition to be the starting QB of the 49ers. Kaepernick doesn't have this large body of work to justify being the distraction that he is, while being on the downslope of his career (which was the argument 5 years ago).

This dude's honestly a joke - just compared the NFL to being a slave plantation, to 6 months later, let me try to get in on this.

What was the reason that Kaepernick was a distraction, if not for kneeling during the anthem? It was clearly about gingoism.

He wasn't 35 when this crap started; he was 29. We're talking about a guy that made no noise at the time, just knelt during the anthem. Out of the league. In a QB starved league, he was dropped out of the league completely.

If you're referring to Baker, that's not the only reason he's out. He also played poorly last year holding the team back, is due a lot of money soon, and the team decided to go with a perennial pro-bowl level QB (some would argue foolhardily, given Watson's off the field issues). Kaep's stats in his last season were better than Baker's last year.

Kaep: 12 games, 59.2%, 2241 yds, 6.8 avg, 16 TD, 4 INT, 90.7 rating, 49.2 QBR, 468 rushing, 2 rushing TDs
Baker: 14 games, 60.5%, 3010 yds, 7.2 avg, 17 TD, 13 INT, 83.1 rating, 35.1 QBR, 134 rushing, 1 rushing TD

Kaepernick's stance irked about half of the NFL, and he started letting politics seap into the NFL. Most sports fans just want to focus on sports and leave current events out. Plus, it was clear as day that this dude did not know what he's doing, one notable example was when he was playing the Dolphins and decided to take an opportunity to praise Fidel Castro that very week. I can tell you right now, go ahead and walk down Little Havana in Miami and praise Fidel Castro. You wouldn't make it down the block alive.

He was smart to not go in a locker room anymore, it would have gotten ugly with someone (s)

You're kidding, right? If you don't know how he made himself a distraction, then you have no business even discussing the topic.

He wasn't 35 when this crap started; he was 29.

And was already relegated to backup status.

Judging by those stats, the reason Kaepernik was not starting was also because of poor play. At least some of Bakers stats can be explained by poor coaching and injury.

You are correct that institutional racism is the reason for Kaep being out of the league.

But it isn’t the NFL who is applying the institutional racism here.

It is the general public.

In no universe SHOULD there have been so much, and such heated backlash to a silent protest.

But there was. And Kaep became a pariah to large segments of the NFL viewing public, and was therefor not employable by owners who wanted to make money.

Kaep wasn’t a good enough football player for his playing contributions to offset the potential losses owners might face by employing a player so hated by so many.

But make no mistake, if Kaep were a better QB, owners would have lined up to give him a job despite his status with large segments of the population.

Colin Kaepernik making a distraction of himself and no team wanting him because of that, is not "institutional racism".

When Warren Moon had to go to the CFL to play QB because black players weren't even considered for the position...THAT was institutional racism.

Exactly. Look at DeShaun Watson. If he were a Kaepernik level talent, he's not getting any contract...let alone one that is completely guaranteed.

Weird trade

Saints must have someone in mind?
QB I'm guessing. You don't trade away a future 1st and 2nd for another position imo. Sounds like the Eagles are positioning themselves at a 2023 QB possibly

Pretty savvy move. I’m pretty pumped. This was a scenario I was hoping for earlier in this thread. Eagles make 2 of 3 selections in round 1 this year and trade the other pick for a first next year and more compensation. This is huge. They now have some draft capital for a move up next year in what will be a better QB draft.

Looks like the Saints are about to make a mistake and give up extra assets for one of these broke ass 2022 QBs. @bksballer89 why are they selling out for a shit draft at QB? They gave up a ton here.
