I don’t mind the 4th downs as much as not using Ekeler on those plays + the one where Kelly fumbled at the goal line.

I hadn't thought of that. Now that I could see criticizing the coach for. Those are important plays and you don't have one of your better players on the field? You may not give him the ball, but you make the defense account for him which can make all of the difference.

Reminds me of the USC/Texas NC game when USC went for it on 4th and 1 to essentially ice the game...with Reggie Bush on the sidelines. If he's on the field, Texas' defense has to account for him and maybe that little bit of hesitation to make sure Reggie wasn't getting the ball, helps Lendale White get the first down.

Well…

The flip side is that you don’t win getting 3 against their 7.

But the Chargers had the lead for most of the game 2nd quarter on.

I don’t mind the 4th downs as much as not using Ekeler on those plays + the one where Kelly fumbled at the goal line.

If you are going to limit him, that is fine. But you limit him to use him when it matters most and they didn’t.

Take just one of those failed 4th down attempts and make a FG and possibly the Chargers have a three point lead as time ran out.

It's impossible to do the what if game. It was bad judgement by the HC to pass up multiple chip-shot FG's.

But it was a good game.
