Good defensive centers will neutralize that skill.

It's different at the NBA level.

He'd be considered at least a moderately good defensive center in the 90s. Just on size alone. The ability to space and rotate is the major difference now. He's just too big to move quickly enough.

But as I've said if a team runs a deliberate enough offense to suit his skill set I think they could find it to be successful.

It will be interesting.

If i was like...the Nuggets it's a swing for the fence move I'd make. 10 minutes of Edey a game spelling Jokic and you would have 2 different centers to plan for.

If it busts it busts. Oh well.

Still do not think Edey will be that good. And very well could cost a GM his job.

Only if he is taken in the top 10.

Don’t think that will happen.

Betting he is late first or early 2nd.

Now, I really like that Clingan kid on UConn.

Think he will be a good player at the NBA level.

Here is the crazy truth about how much the game has changed.

If Edey were entering the draft in 1999, he be be viewed as a defensive asset for his ability to protect the paint and rebound his area.

Maybe. As @tlance mentioned, a lot will depend on where he's taken. If he goes to a team that needs him to play a lot right away, that will be a problem. Someone mentioned Denver...Joker could teach him a lot about thriving as a slow, unathletic big in the NBA.

You mentioned that athletic bigs will eat him alive and you're correct if he has to defend in space. Someone like AD would just blow right by him. However, a good defensive scheme will cut down on how often he has to defend in space like that. As tlance points out, pick and roll is where he'll struggle most. All bigs, even athletic ones, can struggle against the pick and roll. That's why they all hate it. lol

Seeing where he could get drafted in the 10-15 range.

I agree with something like going to Denver, but I doubt he lasts that long.

Yeah, it's definitely possible that some GM, looking to save his job, will take him too early because they're getting a 2-time college POY.

For 12-14 minutes a game a team can play some fugaze kind of zone where all he has to do is cover threats to the rim. You can sacrifice some offense by playing 3 long athletic defense first subs along with him and a guard or wing that can play two man inside/outside with him.

I think that’s the max level role he could play though. It’s hard to pick and roll vs zone.

I find fugaze an interesting word

Yea

Someone is going to have be creative just to see if they can make it work

If it doesn't work it's not like picks after 20 hit most of the time anyway.

This draft stinks anyway so going with him too 15 isn’t the end of the world. I just hope he goes to a team that likes to use centers his size though so Clippers, Bulls,Nuggets, Kings, or etc.

A small ball team drafting him will irritate me

Yep. I don’t even consider taking him until late 1st and preferably 2nd. Like I said, his up up upside is a bench guy for 12-14 minutes a game. People aren’t going to game plan the fuck out of guy who only gets that kind of limited run.

No But I think he's kind of a one of one that's worth checking out to see if you can make it work.

2 time player of the year warrants some kind of opportunity

You are doubling down on a bad comp.

Edey is 8 million times better than Montross offensively.

They are not alike.

Yeah, Boban is a better comparison.

If youre drafting Edey tbat high you’re expecting him to at least be a poetl type
