I think that if the Domers actually joined the ACC, it would save the conference. ND is a huge brand and would bring more revenue with them.

Having said that, if I were them, I'd be less likely to join a conference now. As long as they are in the top 12 they will always get into the playoff and if they're ranked high enough, they could get a bye.

If entry to the playoffs required a conference win to eliminate the bitching lol, they'd be forced to act like all other teams (as they should be) and join a conference.

I don't get the whole "Notre Dame has to join a conference" narrative. I don't see any issue with them being independent.

It's not like they load up on cupcakes to pad their schedule and they have more "rivalry games" than any other team.

Personally, I wanted USC to go independent over joining the B1G.

If a team has a big enough "brand" to get their own tv deal, put together a good schedule every year...why shouldn't they be able to?

I don’t like rules being levied that forces them out of independence. However, looking at the lay of the land, ND would be better served now joining a conference. ND long claimed they aren’t a regional program so a conference doesn’t fit because it’s regional in nature. All that is changing now.

Their 25-26 game win streak vs the ACC that Louisville ended though would be an argument that the ACC partnership actually served to make their schedule lighter.

USC’s inclusion is why I prefer ND look B10 now. Never thought I’d say that but here I am.

Agree with all of this, although I think the ACC partnership making their schedule lighter tends to be a bit overblown. Most of the time, they have been considered the 3rd best conference. Every once in a while, the Big 12 or PAC would bump them to 4, but mostly they've been 3rd best.

But yeah, if the landscape changes/has changed enough that it makes more sense for them to be in a conference, that's fine.

As you said though, I don't think there should be any adding or tweaking of rules to try to force them into a conference.

Interesting "chatter" that I heard was that USC told the B1G that the ND rivalry was sacred and they wouldn't join the conference if they had to give it up. Can't say that's true as it was "chatter", but I do know that USC has never been willing to even consider ending the rivalry for any reason. I've heard ND has pretty much had the same attitude.

Yep. USC and Navy games are non-negotiable from ND’s perspective
