He wants a bigger role though.

Have to respect that.

And honestly? If the Browns can get some assets in return they should consider moving him. They have some pretty solid RB depth behind Chubb anyway. Hunt is a luxury for them.
100%. I'd say almost zero chance we keep him with many big deals starting soon and don't have the luxury to pay a backup RB big money.

Guess is we keep him unless someone gets desperate for a RB and makes an offer we cannot refuse.

a fool to just ask? I mean, they can always just say no which they did....for now.

I mean...ya. he can showcase his skills just fine from the role he has. It wouldn't affect how much his next deal is.

I mean- its almost laughable how clean the books are for the Guardians @dtgold88 @Shanemansj13

They have less than 20M in guaranteed contracts for next year.

they should have a lot of flexibility. They will need a catcher- Hedges is an FA- I dont know if they resign him or let him go or make a trade.

Next year:

SP:
1. Bieber- 8M
2. McKenzie- 1M
3. Quintrell- 3M
4. Plesac- 3M
5. Civale- 3M
(minors- Espino, Williams, Bibee, Burns, Allen, Gaddis, Beytonfield)

C: Who knows- Bo Naylor may be ready- he was just added to MLB.com's top 100 list- upping Guardians # in the top 100 to 9...3 more than the closest team
1B: Naylor- 2M
2B: Gimenez- 2M
3B: Ramirez- 14M
SS: Rosario- 6M (with Arias/Freeman- 2 top 100 guys waiting in the wings if they make a move- Rocchio also but hes still prob 2 years away)
CF: Straw- 2M
LF: Kwan- 1M
RF: Who knows- maybe Oscar Gonzalez, or Nolan Jones.......Valera- their top hitting prospect is still a year or two away.
DH: ? Naylor will play here a decent amount- but I have him at 1B.

Pen:
Clase- 1.5M
Karinchak: 1M
Stephen: 1M
De Los Santos: 1M
Morgan: 1M
Sandlin: 1M

Because of the 40 man roster crunch I think guys like Gose, Hentges, Maile, Miller, Straw, Benson, Jewell, Gaddis, McCarty, Pilkington, Vargas, Clement, Palacios- will have to fight for roster spots- but they are all very cheap--- I would say out of those 13- maybe half will be off the 40 man.

That is pretty inexpensive all around- I would say about 52M.......that should leave them plenty of flexibility to add a catcher, a DH, and a reliever. Plesac or Civale could get traded. Even with a lower tier payroll- all of the young guys on inexpensive deals- should give them some flexibility.

Their window is just opening right now. I think even in 2023 and 2024 they will only continue to stay very young. I like Rosario a lot- and he has really come along- but knowing how the Guardians think- with him due 6M and in the last year of arbitration- and with Freeman, Arias, Rocchio, Tena and Martinez in the wings for middle infield- I would be surprised if they do not seriously consider moving him. Personally- I hope they keep him at least 1 more year.

Gives me hope they can resign Bieber- but- as with pitching contracts- long term deals rarely work out. I would give Bieber 4 years- maybe 5--- but even that comes with so much risk.
I think more likely we see more of Naylor at DH. That seems to be the one area we could look for a stud (DH/1B) in the offseason if Dolan will show a pulse.

Right but I think as much as he likes it here he knows he wont get a longterm deal and would rather go somewhere he might be part of a longer term plan.

That said, because it's home I doubt he'd hate another season here (and likely why he came back to camp full time)

Phillies have won 10 of their last 11 games. They’re now 2 games up on a wildcard spot. They actually passed the Padres to become the 2nd wildcard in the East.
Ha. Damn I mean NL. Used to Sixers and calling it the East that my team is in. Derp derp derp

Yep. Browns have what I call a “desperation chip”. Eagles made that work after they drafted Wentz. They held off on making a Sam Bradford trade despite already moving on from him. Teddy Bridgewater went down in camp for the Vikings and was lost for the season. The Eagles got a first round pick for the desperation of the Vikings. RB is a different animal but somewhere along the way, even if it goes up to the trade deadline, it’s likely someone will be incentivized to give a pick for him.

Yep. Thinking because it's RB gonna need to be a contender who relies heavily on said RB going down to offer much of value.

True. For most of the league, RB has become a plug and play position.

It has.

But Hunt is really good. There aren’t 10 RBs better than him in the league.

So depending on who goes down and how central they are to the game plan, I could totally see a team overpaying to land Hunt.

To be fair, that's kind of what I said and he agreed.

Looks similar to most seasons.

Rough go for OSU. Plays 5, 6, 14 and 20...plus Iowa and PSU. Love it.

That's interesting. I found this article.

From fadeaway-world-.com (10/22/21)

The top 10 oldest & youngest NBA teams for the 2021-22 season

Oldest teams. # 1- Lakers, 30.9

Youngest teams. # 7- Cavs, 25.0

Granted that's from last season. But I can't imagine that between the end of the season and right now that the Lakers got considerably younger while the Cavs got considerably older.

Then you haven't paid attention to the Lakers roster.

Depends how desperate a team is for a RB. I'm hoping for a decent #2 WR or a 3rd rounder but might be too much.
I'd rather them extend him than another team, possible contending team, trading for him and being the missing link. Might not need him but Watson-Chubb-Hunt would be fun to watch at least for one full season

You're right about that. This time of the year I'm looking forward to football. Not in basketball mode yet.

You mentioned Westbrook yesterday. Do you think your Lakers will be able to find a team willing to trade for him?

Are the Guardians an NBA basketball team? I'm confused.

Nobody is interested in trading for him; they may be willing to tolerate trading for his expiring contract to get draft assets and some future cap relief.

Teams like the Pacers and Jazz have been at least willing to talk, but the Lakers aren't going to settle until a decision is made with Kyrie.
