How did the refs screw us on the challenge?
The replay I saw of the leverage 'non-call' appeared to be correct as well.
We were actually given two 1st downs by penalty to Arizona's one.
I agree the sack seemed a little ticky-tack

Honestly, I just did not see where the refs made that big of an impact on the game. Arizona had more penalty yards than we did, so I'm not seeing where the refs tilted this game at all. That said, I'm watching the game again later tonight, so I'll look for it.

I didn't feel the Refs had any hand in our lost, didn't like that "sack" they ruled but other than that, can't really say anything that went against us or didn't for us... maybe, if anything, we got away some "def PIs..."

4 FGs killed us....

and AZ got SOOOO LUCKY with their challenge on our fake!

They called it late. Once the ball is snapped the officials should not be allowed to blow the play dead for anything other than offsides. I don't agree with the whole well the challenge flag was thrown right before the snap, or we didn't get word to stop play until right before the snap. I say tough luck to that because once the ball is in play it should be to late. If they did it that way maybe coaches would think a little quicker on the challenges.

Its sad when youre sitting there waiting for a WR to run the ball. Plus, we need to scrub the bubble screen bs from the playbook as well. Stuff works if the receiver has any forward momentum..but ive never seen alex throw that pass where a receiver has any forward momentum before they catch it. And, sadly, seems like an illegal motion penalty is called about 2/3'rds of the time we run it.

We can also scrub the refrigerator Perry in the backfield plays as well.

Lol my best friend is a huge giants fan. And hes been threatening to 'ask' Mike Pereira via twitter to ask the giants OC to stop running so many draw plays. So maybe I too can ask Mike P to talk Sf out of running this bs every week.

My thoughts on this game, and the culmination of the past years... now that I've let my emotions subside.

I respect and support Alex Smith. I love his work ethic and his ability to fight through the disastrous situations of Nolan and Singletary as Head Coaches... but that doesn't mean I can't see his limitations. I don't feel as if he is the only problem with the offense, but the team can't win a Super Bowl with him... and knowing that, what is the point of keeping him if they can't get that far with him?

It is just crazy because it isn't all on him... for the most part, you pressure Smith and he won't beat you... that is why teams have no qualms with putting up the 8 man fronts on Gore. It helps contain Frank, and it takes away the easy passes from Alex. They have nothing to fear while leaving 3 guys deep... because even when Alex does beat the pressure and 8-man front to make the pass... guys like Ginn can't find the ball in the air, and guys like V.D. drop TDs in the endzone. And when those guys aren't dropping balls, Smith is completely missing the guy left wide open when the safety leaves his guy to anticipate a short pass, or he is throwing an inaccurate ball to someone in single coverage.

In the end, I just can't explain it. It seems as if there are two scenarios in which this team has fallen into... If the guy is open, Smith won't see him, and when Smith makes the perfect pass, the guy drops it. It is unreal, and it is just ridiculous...

The O-Line gets a lot of heat... but the deck is stacked against them too. Those guys have to deal with so many different looks and have to guess if it'll be 3 or 8 guys rushing. Not to say it isn't pathetic that a 6 man protection group gets beat by a 4-man rush... because it is... and they suck for that... I just think the O-Line gets screwed by having so much fall on them with a QB who doesn't have the knack for making the right decisions consistently... and the receivers who drop the balls when Alex Smith actually does make the right decision.

I'm not putting this loss on Alex Smith... because I'm not a retard who blames him for dropped passes. I'm just fed up with the combination of Smith not being able to make plays when it matters... and the receivers not catching the balls when Smith does the unthinkable of hitting them in the damn hands. I know that sounds crazy... but it'll be easier to gamble and replace the QB than it would be to replace an entire receiving corps.

Very hard loss to stomach. The neighbors definitely think i am crazy after the things i yelled at the T.V. today. Most of my thoughts have been said, but Ginn really pissed me off today. That should-be fake FG should have been a TD. I'm really upset with how well the timeouts and challenges worked out for the Cardinals.

Glad to see you doing this again crimson.

i don't think any qb has won a super bowl with poor pass blocking like we have. as i've said before, the offensive line is by far the biggest issue on offense. it completely limits what we can do out there.

threelittlebirds - nice post.

I agree with most of the points you made. Alex Smith is always a touchy subject but he really is holding us back, and will continue to, no matter what people want to think.

the offensive line has shown a weakness and teams attack it. that has nothing to do with the qb or wr. last week they showed stats about how smith had what 120 or 130 rating vs the blitz? the coaching staff needs to figure out how to minimize the weakness of the offensive line or smith is a dead man monday night.

i didn't think the run blocking was all that great today. there was a couple big runs, but there was a good number of negative plays from the poor blocking.

The offensive line struggles when having to pick up who to block. If it's not the guy across from them or the LB they think is blitzing then they get beat. That is why stunts and zone blitzes seem to be killing us.

As much as I'd like to see him succeed he either becomes a second string QB next year or we part ways with him.

It's so funny how just a few weeks ago I make a thread about potential QBs for next year and I get cussed out. I'm just a realist, I understand a lot of people on this board don't want to believe Alex Smith can't get things done but the good news is this team is quite possibly one move away from being favored to win the super bowl. Sometimes you have to let your favorite players go to get better and this is one of those situations.

Because we can't slap you via the series of tubes.

You are a liar or ignorant to say Smith and favorite ever have gone together on 49ers forums. EVER.

What the people who are not clownish morons did say was they favored Alex Smith over the likes of these...

How many did you personally champion along with the circus freaks that claim to be under the 49er fan tent?

Kevin Kolb?
Donovan McNabb?
Vince Young?
Carson Palmer?
Matt Hasselbeck?

"one move away from being favored to win the super bowl"

That is a step below lie/ignorant and now you are full on retard.

this team is far more than one move away. the offensive line has been horrible, the secondary is lacking and the offense lacks that goto reciever

upgrading smith would be great, but there isn't any realistic options unless the saints forget to resign brees

The defense has only given up like 14 points a game average. I say the corners have done a pretty good job with that stat. I also am not saying it couldn't be upgraded. So it might take more than one big move to get to the super bowl (calm down) but I've expressed it many times, this team would be a thousand times better if they had a QB that could actually pass the ball farther than 6 yards.
