They've also got the ability to woo star players, something Detroit proved last off season it cannot do. Their current GM is the guy who built the Jets, a team everyone here seems to love, so I think they'll be ok.

Miami also has 3 wins, while Detroit will be lucky to see that all year.

You're better off comparing the Lions to teams like the Jaguars, Titans, and Texans. Those are the teams Detroit will be drafting near next April, not Miami.

TrustMe's opinion about the Dolphins being like the Lions rings true here too. Hickey worked for terrible GMs like Mark Dominik and Bruce Allen just as Meyhew worked for Millen before he was hired as a GM.

Throughout the first 10 years of this millenia, we didn't even have one & done. One & done is better than just done. Obviously we all want a winner, a yearly contender. But lets be real here. This may be the most jaded fan base in sports. How much confidence do you have that Martha will hire the next great GM? That GM will bring in the next great coach? The next great QB? My guess is you don't really have any confidence that will happen. Most of us don't. So at the end of the day Mayhew has put together a talented team. Obviously if he was perfect, we wouldn't be where we are. But I also don't want it blown up because the chances are greater that the right people will not be hired which will just make shit more miserable than they are now. Like 2000s miserable! So, yea, I'd rather this GM, this coach, this QB, this collection of talent for the most part, to get their shit together and win something rather than starting over again with all the hope and disappointment that usually comes with that.

As for Hickey, the Bucs saw the playoffs 6 times while he worked in scouting, including a SB ring. Martin Mayhew can only dream of such accolades.
