I like the late '60's Dart GTS 340s and GTS 383s as well as the Barracudas prior to them becoming the Cudas. IMHO, the '66 & '67 Chargers were the best body style of Chargers. While my '66 VIP wasn't considered a "muscle car" it was only 300 lbs heavier than a '68 charger, could've come with front disk brakes (new in '66), and the 426 Stage 3 Max Wedge or new at that time 426 Hemi engines were available. Too bad the lady that bought my car new ordered it with the smallest V8 (318 Poly ). It's been rebuilt, punched .030 over by the mechanic that has and races this car, and has headers and 4bbl now.

The Thunderbolt was a race only car. The only made 100 of them. That is another class of car altogether. Badass car, but not really a street legal muscle car.

You could plop down your cash and drive it home legally, though not recommended.
The GTO was pretty cool though.

Not bad but you should familiarize yourself with the 1969 428 CJ Mach 1 or the 1969 Boss 302 if You like Stangs. The 1971 was boxy, stiff and eh...

That body was the smoothest ride for a Mustang. And the reason they're bigger is because of the iron they had planned on putting between the fenders.
Check out a '71 429 SCJ, or '71 Boss 351 if you like speed..

I'll say for the Muscle Car (65-74) its between Ford and Mopar and I'm not sure which I like better.


GM took over in the mid to late 70's with the Trans-Am/Z28.


if the 80's count I'll stick solely with the Mustang since I've seen it eat many T/A's and Z28's up like it was nothing on a normal street drag.

1986:

In 1986, Buick added in an air-to-air intercooler and tweaked the boost output to net the 3.8-liter V-6 an extra 35 horsepower and 30 pound-feet of torque, bettering the mighty Corvette’s base engine by 5 horsepower. With aluminum heads, the Corvette matched the Natty’s output.

The extra power pushed the Grand National to a new height, hitting 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and clearing a 1/4-mile in just 13.7 ticks of the second hand. That left the Corvette boys holding their jock straps at the starting line, as the Vette took 5.9 seconds to hit 60 mph and cleared the 1/4-mile in 14.2 seconds. Then the GM battle for power really took hold, but we now know who ended up on top…

1987:

In 1987, with Chevy breathing down Buick’s neck about its “precious,” Buick decided to shelf the Grand Natty the following year. But not before going out in a blaze of horsepower glory. Two Grand Nationals hit the streets in 1987, the base model and an outrageous GNX model.

The base Grand National hit 245 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque, and the GNX pumped out a mighty 276 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque. This netted the GNX a 0-to-60 time of 4.7 seconds and a 1/4-mile time of 13.5 seconds. The Base grand Natty cleared the quarter in 14.23 seconds. Both numbers simply embarrassed the 1987 Corvette, as if Buick sucker-punched “The American Sports Car” in the gut as it was shown the door.

72' 454 Cowl Induction Convertible SS Chevelle...Quite possibly the finest muscle car ever built by Detroit in my opinion. The above shown 71' is way to cool too.

All of the above mentioned cars are worthy. Detroit had a hellva run back thru the 60s and early 70s.

I once owned a 68' RS Camaro w/ a 327 HP. Loved that center console gauge cluster it had. Miss er.

I think that most people like certain cars that had to do with something in their childhood. A connection of some kind.


When I was 10yrs old, my cousin got a brand new 1970 GTO. He would take me driving around in it and I thought it was the best thing ever. This picture could actually pass for his car.

Based purely on styling, a '70 Olds 4-4-2 is very hard to beat for me.

I have a '72 Chevelle - only a Malibu 350 that I want to make into a clone SS and drop a crate 396 in it.

Yeah, you don't see those in the Muscle Car category. The Rambler American was the Muscle Car of the Ramblers.

The Americans were the compacts, the Rebels were the muscle cars, which the Marlin was nothing more than a modified version of. The Javelin and AMX were much better looking, had several over the years.

I just woke up and thought it was all just a dream. Had to revisit the spec sheet story and make sure wasn't.

One August month with this car is always on the bucket list. Matter of fact, it's the only thing in my bucket list to do.

Not sure I would hate any muscle car from the 60's-70's.

But one that gets missed a lot that for short period was cool but will always have a bad rap mainly due to the crap new version these days.

This one is more sentimental, dad had one and I loved the car. I recently saw one for auction that needed a ton of restoration work and it kills me I lost the bid on it. I thought I was a shoe in because I though who in the heck would remember this car or even have any memories of one, stupid me.
