Pitching isn't this teams issue. It's scoring runs.
We said going into the trade season we for sure needed more pitching because of depth, but it would be a failure of they didn't add at least one good bat. Wasn't even asking for a Soto or Ohtani. Just a solid .265 or better guy.
Both of those teams you mentioned did that. They both got stronger at a higher rate than the M's.
Adding Castillo is awesome. Should add a lot to next years run, but here we are again taking about next year. They absolutely did not do enough to impact this year's postseason chances.
Your last paragraph is just hilariously not true. You have to have forethought, and bolstering your team's strongest unit when everyone can see Kirby's innings climbing and Marco regressing absolutely impacts this team's postseason chances. We're in the position we are because of the starting pitching, not in spite of it.
Today's game is an obvious example. Castillo is absolutely embarrassing a Yankees lineup that spanked Gilbert. If you don't think that's a major upgrade I can't help you.
