Guess he won't be going back to Boston after all.

Nope, not a chance now.
No way he was going to be paid that much in Boston.

Thanks for all the memories Mookie.

$400 mill for a baseball player? These things always turn out well for the team.

odgers signed OF Mookie Betts to a 12-year, $365 million contract extension through 2032.
ESPN's Jeff Passan was first to report the terms and the Dodgers officially announced the deal shortly after. Betts is making $10 million this season (the prorated pay for his $27 million salary) and the $365 million extension will kick in starting in 2021. Only Mike Trout's $426.5 million contract exceeds Betts', who will turn 28 in October. Betts has one American League MVP under his belt and has finished in the top-eight in MVP voting each of the last four years.

It sucks to know this almost certainly means he'll never wear a Boston uniform again (unless he gets one of those curtain call contracts when he retires), but I'm happy he's getting his contract.

Dodgers have a very good payroll situation. They don't have very many long-term contracts and most of their guys are just about to come up on arbitration.

Well deserved. The dude is a beast. It’s too bad that us east coasters won’t really get a chance to watch him much now

That he did and very smart of him to now... He could have waited after this 60 game season, produced and gotten even more but he was thinking, what if this season never even happens, who knows what the FA market will be like regardless of how well I do... Let's get my money now and be set

Yep basically will be on the books until he is 40. I don't see any opt out but I didn't see one in Pujols deal either. Wonder if this contract has incentives, I know Pujols' contract does:

  • Full no-trade clause
  • 3000 Hits Bonus: $3 million
  • Home Run Record: $7 million
  • Annual Award Bonus: $875,000
  • $10 million personal services contract paid after playing contract expires.
  • All Star: $50,000
  • Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, LCS MVP: $75,000
  • WS MVP: $100,000
  • MVP: 1st ($500,000), 2/3 ($75,000)

Funny enough Pujols really didn't achieve much of those incentives.

He got to 3K hits which is a cool $3M in his pocket but only one All-Star appearance. Only played in one playoff game in LA.

That $10M personal services after he retires is crazy.

Dodgers have inside knowledge that the NL is going to be forced into having a DH?
