With this being the first day of the combine I thought it would be the perfect time for my 2nd official mock draft. I used Green Bay's draft as the template since they had the 21st pick in last year's draft and also awarded the Bengals the 98th selection as a comp pick for losing Michael Johnson and Anthony Collins to the Bucs.

Round 1 (21st)- Malcom Brown* DT 6'3½" 317 Texas

Round 2 (53rd)- Phillip Dorsett WR 5'9⅝" 183 Miami (FL)

Round 3 (85th)- Tyrus Thompson OT 6'5¼" 320 Oklahoma

Round 3 (98th)- Doran Grant CB 5'10⅜" 199 Ohio State

Round 4 (121st)- Jake Ryan OLB 6'2¾" 238 Michigan

Round 5 (161st)- Cedric Reed DE 6'6¼" 270 Texas

Round 6 (197th)- Malcolm Bunche OG 6'5⅝" 320 UCLA

Round 7 (236th)- Isaiah Johnson S 6'0⅞" 211 Georgia Tech

Love the 1st pick. The 2nd pick is ok, but we have bigger needs IMO. Need LB and DE over WR. I don't like an OT or CB early at all. We have 3 tiers of needs IMO. Top: DT, DE, LB. Those should be addressed first. Middle: WR, TE. They should be addressed next. Bottom: OL, CB, S. They should be late round guys.

While I'm not going to call you an idiot, I don't like either of the first two picks.

How do you not like Brown?
Of the two, Brown is certainly the better of the picks. I dont' think we should go with Dorsett in the 2nd. I am interested to see how Brown's combine goes...in college he was just able to overpower people. He's going to need some more moves in the NFL.

I get it's a major position of need, and he'll likely be the best available at the position...

It's a huge position of need too. Brown is probably my 2nd favorite DT in the draft. I doubt he falls honestly but I'd love it.

I don't think we need to go WR in the 2nd but Dorsett is a very good prospect. I doubt he is there when we pick in the 2nd either.

I'd rather go OL or LB in the 2nd round, depending on who's available.

Pretty surprised you use our 7th for a single S pick. I think S is a position we actually need to look to fill.

I don't want to pick a OL high at all. I don't think we need to. I want to go DL, Edge (Whether its a DE or a guy like Beasley) and LB with our top 3 picks personally. Then I think we need to go WR, TE and another LB with our next 3 picks. Then S and OL are fine. I don't think either are pressing needs like the positions I listed before this. Now this all can change with FA of course.

I want one of these 3 guys with out 1st round pick: Malcom Brown, Shaq Thompson, or Arik Armstead.

Personally, I'm becoming a big fan of this Thompson kid. He's an outstanding athlete. Not necessarily the pass rusher we need, but a very good football player. He played 3 different positions at Washington and was the best on the team at those positions. The rate we lose guys to injury, we could use a guy who can do multiple things.

Brown and Thompson I would be really happy with. No thanks to Armstead.

Explain to me why we don't need offensive linemen. We have two tackles with expiring contracts after next season. One is going into his 10th season and the other is coming off injury. One of our starting guards is a free agent. There aren't good lineman in reserve on our team - Late round picks used as developmental players haven't worked out. I still think the key to success in this league is to build your lines. I'm in favor of any draft that gets us OL and DL in the first three rounds.

Besides, when have we ever drafted a good linebacker anyway?

The Bengals are a team continuously confused about their identity.
we have 2 running backs that could be considered to be in the top 4th of the league, we have a QB that shits his pants when the lights come on and a WR that up until he got turf toe repeatedly bailed him out by making insanely athletic catches. This team needs to run the ball 70-75% of the time. The QB just can't be trusted unless he's in a good mood and the opposing defense is suspect.

You can never have too many good OL. I just think the pass rush is a more glaring weakness with this team at the moment. It's what makes the whole defense work. There is not a person on this team capable of 10 sacks. The OL was pretty damn good last year. Now, if the Bengals pull their usual low ball crap, and lose Clint Boling to FA, then yes I totally agree with spending a 1st rounder in that area.

While it may be nice to think our draft picks are helping us next year, it's rarely been the case with this club. Drafting strictly for next year's needs is just going to hurt the team in 2016. I think we need either a offensive tackle or a defensive end or tackle in the first round -- Superstars at those positions are tough to get in later rounds.

Well, Marvin and company are on record of saying, they refuse to draft for need and will draft best available players no matter what to improve team quality and depth, and will use FA to fill any needs with second class players who are over priced on other teams and got cut, or guys that had a good career but aging now and have lost a step allowing their price tag to fall.

Don't expect anything other than not knowing what to expect.

Malcom Brown has one of the quickest 1st steps of all the DT's in the draft. His game isn't based upon over powering his opponent but using his strength and speed to gain leverage. I seriously suggest you look at his game tape.
