obviously peavy isnt a t.o.r. pitcher. but would fill in well in the back of the rotation. its to expensive to go get the best arm and best bat on the market. you gotta temper expectations. not necessarily referring to romeo and jta. just the general consensus

its hard for me to put stock in any position player who plays in silo known as wrigley when the wind is blowing out...... although, shierholtz is intriguing, but not mych of an upgrade imo, his resume is far from impressive. he's more of a 4th outfielder....ala murphy

Okay, the wind blows out in the summer, but do you realize how much offense it suppresses in April in may? The guy is a lefty bat with some power that kills rhp and gets on base. He'd be a pretty big improvement over Murphy and a pretty good fit for rbia.

I'd rather roll with what we have than acquire peavey. Feel the same way about him I did about nolasco.

still better than grimm/tepesch if the chisox eat some money. he'd essentially be a sweetener in a rios trade

If he was a throw in, sure I'd take him. I wouldn't give up muh if anything for him though.

Problem with Peavy, is he's pitched more than 112 innings ONCE since 2008, and is on the books for at least next year as well, he just ain't worth it, I agree I'd rather just roll with what we got than also acquire peavy

But since pitching is our primary need and we're only going to make one big move in your estimation, I'd rather go for Garza/Schierholtz in a platoon

There's nothing sweet about Peavy in a deal, guy can't stay healthy, he's an albatross, we'd be fools to bother with him

he'd be getting 14.5 million next year to sit on the DL half the year

Scotty ... came to the thread late ... but while Martin certainly is part of the formula depending on a another rookie to be the second of three starting OFers ... and then depending on a #4 and a guy who is really an infielder together to be the third starting OFer would trump any really expensive move for an SP you also need.

TEX needs a LFer who hits like a LFer and not like Joaquin Arias.

here's what JD had to say about it:

general manager Jon Daniels said he is not expecting to add an impact middle-of-the-order power guy through a trade. The Rangers have two key hitters on the disabled list, with Jeff Baker sidelined with a sprained right thumb and Lance Berkman out with a strained right hip. Both could be out for 2-3 more weeks.

"We came into the season arguably a little light in the power department, and it's played out that way," Daniels said. "With Lance and Baker banged up, we're seeing the impact of missing those guys. It's something we're looking at.

"There are some interesting guys to be talking about, but I don't see any middle-of-the-order guys available. The guys available are quality role players, but I'm not sure they'd have much of an impact. The number three, four, five hitters just don't get moved this time of the year."

Meh, like jta said. Long appeals process coming up. MLB has certain players they want to go after.

Yup, just read another article n(a little while ago) and I forget who wrote it, but basically saying once again the appeals will go into at least late fall.

We all know JD never says what he means.

Either A) he's feeding the media a line of crap, b/c we all know that's not true, or B) he's a complete moron... I'm voting A

Just down sellin ... Other Gms and agents are his audience. The Message: we aint paying through the nose just because we have money and talent. Forces sellers to beat Baker + Berkman.

Funny -- sounds like JD was counting on LB the OPB guy and Baker the backup CIF guy who sometimes gets to platoon w/Murphy. So I guess it is Baker's fault that TEX has gotten squat production from LF. Murphy's abscense doesn't even get a mention from JD.

Wonder if Murphy will get a watch when he leaves in Nov?
