I'm good with the Harper deal but I don't know if the Machado deal was that bad for the Padres. They got his best years and if he's planning to leave after this season he has lots of incentive to have a great season this year. But I'm thinking if he does have a good enough season and opts out of the contract and some other team gives him More than 32 Mil. and More years, then That team is most likely going to be disappointed.
Fair point. The Padres will have gotten the best of his prime and have avoided the back end where his play could diminish over time.

Yes

You can never be mad when these guys opt out like that.

You profit

The Harper deal just started a tax dodge trend by adding a few years to the deal

Almost like void years in the nfl

In about 3.5 seasons, he's hit .280/.352/.504 (136 OPS+) and has put up 17.6 WAR (5.2 per 650 PA). He was meh in 2019, but rebounded with an MVP caliber "half season", had an All-Star season in 2021 and finished 2nd in NL MVP voting last year (2nd in WAR). Assuming he puts up another All-Star season and does opt out, I'd say the Padres did pretty well.

The Rangers, in a sneaky good move, signed Robbie Grossman to a 1/$2MM contract, with incentives that could bring it to $5MM. He won't be an all-star, nor would I count on him to be a regular everyday player, but he is a good bench piece.

worth the gamble for $2M, he was a solid OBP guy even if he is a platoon guy

Royals signed Franmil Reyes to a minor league deal earlier this week

he has still hit the ball hard even though he has sucked. Just needs to quit chasing

Career .271/.351/.482 vs lefties

Thank you! Middleton is an impulsive spender. Wanted to go shopping this morning with his money haha.

Looks like there is a ton of pen left. Maybe not quality but a 5th-6th inning guy or two.

There still are a lot of players out there that could help a team with depth. Not sure about some of the guys, though. Some will likely go to the far east to play.

He's got a decent bat, but he's one of the worst defensive outfielders that I've ever seen. He's not fast, doesn't get good breaks and has a terrible arm.

Another sneaky move -- Luke Voit to the Brewers. It could be a great signing.
