The guy had the #1 defense in the country last year and lost 5 games with it.

It’s crazy to me all of these guys who had amazing offenses as an OC and then they become a head coach and their offense becomes one of the worst in the nation. Hard to explain.

MSU has been and will be a cellar dweller with the occasional breakout year (which for them is 3rd or 4th in the West). Mullen was as good as they can expect, and that was what they were with him. Not really sure what they are expecting.

Probably so. But, they are P5 and that means they are rich enough to be a member of THE country club like a lot of others are. Even if they are a 20 handicapper and should be playing from the red tees.

McElwain made his reputation at Bama with a lot of top shelf talent. His offense works well with Mark Ingram, Julio Jones, and loads of NLF bound OL talent. He inherited a terrible offense from Muschamp and did little to improve it.

Bad move at this point in time. The guy was 14-11 in a Hellish division with two years in. At least give the guy a 3rd year. I am not sure who they think they will get to improve things right here at the tail end of the coaching carousel. There have been a number of names tossed around - Leach, Chizik, Monken, several others. Billy Napier has already turned down the job. They don't know wtf to do up there.

And I am laughing, fuck them and their god forsaken cowbells. Starkville is a shithole.

Yeah, I've always believed talent can overcome some bad coaching to an extent.

Gene Chizick was a defensive coach whose team championship team ranked 53 in scoring defense, 108 in pass defense, but they were top 5 in rush defense. The writing was on the wall that he was riding the success if Newton and Malzahn.

Sometimes I think the schools like Miss St should just take a chance on a cheaper unknown guy with some significant incentives for more money based on results. That way if it is a mistake it is a less expensive one to get rid of. But, there are a lot of schools doing the opposite. Paying over $1 million per win per year.

Task #1 for anybody is to figure out how to keep all the talent from pouring out of state.

There was a tornado that went through Starkville and it did 1 million dollars worth of improvements.

They should have fired Moorehead before the bowl game instead of waiting right after.

Like what Jimbo Fisher said last month on signing day you can't win a National Title with just Texas players alone since the game has changed.

Having Leach and Monken on the same list is as diverse as it can get.

FWIW, I think he was let go for losing control of the program off the field, not his W-L record. I think that he simply lost his team. Some people are not leaders or the right type of leaders for certain situations.

If I were A.D., I'd go to the Sun Belt to find a HC that doesn't need OJT.
