I know there have been a few players who have spoken out ala McNabb and Haynesworth, but who are the really credible ones without an axe to grind?

It has become obvious to me, that Mikes' ego and personal/coaching style is NOT adapting to THIS year, to things that might work for this team and QB, given this teams weaknesses.

That is the biggest issue to me. THis seeming inability to shift the course (the plan - offensive, defensive and STs) and adapt to the limitations that have shown themselves this year and place players in positions of their strengths.

Have to agree about the dysfunction that exists with the HC/OC, father and son combo.

I believe the Shannys did create a plan to get the most production but not necessarily as 'the easy way out'. I fully believe that they planned to transition Griff slowly, but have been hampered by the injury, depth, QB regression and a perfect storm of issues.

Honestly I would struggle to name guys much beyond those two you mnetioned...possibly the 2 biggest stars under his reign in WAS though right? The point here is BB in NE, Cowher in PIT, Coughlin...all known as tough no nonsense type guys...players come and go, but you never see guys coming out against a former coach like that. One former player (not a 'Skin) said on local sports talk radio here that he felt like Mike had a bad case of the Napoleon syndrome.

Mike is a smart guy, former QB coach, OC, etc. so you know he knows OFC...I termed the "easy way out", but essentially they did the same thing that Mora Jr/Knapp did here with M. Vick. I agree the mid/long range plan was probably to start integrating more pro style as RG3 developed...who knows, maybe by running the OFc he was familiar with, they were shielding him from the fans expectations given the high price to acquire his rights.

If he started out in a pro style OFC and stunk like most young QBs do in the NFL there's a good chance we wouldn't have him in Subway commercials so quickly...lol.

But...whatever they decide to do in WAS, hopefully they get an OC that sticks...the worst thing for young QB is constant change at that position.

Your more in need of a new OC then a HC.

You're not wrong, but c'mon, its obvious to anyone, that they're a package deal.

Beyond that they are also in need of a new D-Coordinator & Special Teams coach. When everyone is questioning all three major asst coaches you have to seriously consider removing the head coach (especially when he appears to not want to get rid of even one of them). I seriously have to question whether Mike Shanahan really cares about the success of the Washington Redskins. If that was his main priority he would stop worrying so much about hurting people's feelings (his son, RG3, Haslett, etc).

I still have more problems with Haz and Burns, than MS. But you're right about this. Especially with question marks surrounding Kyle. I wonder if play calling could be pulled for a game or two? Wonder whether Mike would have the balls to have plays at least run thru him first? Probably not, but at this point, I wish they'd do something different.

That is the frustrating part. A lot of other teams appear to make adjustments against the Skins, but it rarely appears to work the other way. Take last night - why do they keep running those stupid WR screens when they are very ineffective. Find something - anything - different to run. Ditto on defense - couldn't they see that Wilson was getting lit up like a Christmas tree? Couldn't they make any adjustments? Oh well - maybe I am missing something.

Nope. That's what I've been seeing as well. The inability to adjust to other teams' adjustments. The refusal to put players in a position of their strengths. To continue to do what doesnt work. True absurdity. Seems more and more true, that it is more on coaching, than talent, tho that doesn't help things.

Yep - start with what are probably their two main stars on defense - Kerrigan & Orakpo. Does anyone truly believe that both are being used to the best of their abilities? Sure - a big part falls on them, but - as you mention - they have to be put in position to take the best advantage of their talents.

It's quite clear, at this point, that Kerrigan and Orakpo are being misused. Too much contain for both, especially for Kerrigan and rarely using both simultaneously as pass rushers.

Outside of Mikes obvious obstinacy about game and player adjustments, there is the overriding truth, that this offense has severely regressed the past 3 games. Very troubling, when offense has always been Shannys strength.

I just want to see some evidence that Mike is not a stubborn dinosaur. These next 5 games will tell us a lot.

No changes or increased effort from players and you gotta think about cutting bait.

Next coach???

Hypothetically, say Mike Shanahan gets the axe after the season. Who do you think would be the next head coaching candidate?

As coach and decision maker Mike Shanahan IS the problem.

Why???? Glad you're asking!!!

Reason one starts with NOT being mindful of where and what division he's now coaching in. This is the NFC East, historically the best division in the game, complete with powerful offensive lines and stout defenses that put fear into the rest of the league. Bucking that history seems to be the trend in this division now and the results are..........well...............

Ask yourself this question and let's see if we agree. You draft or acquire talented players, but like all humans they come with tendencies or issues that needs work. What would you do? Bench them? Take a my way or the highway stance, or work with/on them in the best interest of the team?

3-4 vs. 4-3 Does the personnel really fit the scheme? A middle linebacker who should have been retired two seasons ago (yes I said so on the old ESPN board). Two defensive ends who are deficient in coverage and better suited for the 4-3. Toast, butter and jam in the backfield. That is Wilson, Hall and Meriweather. Hall is the only one playing NFL caliber football. Haslett, is a 4-3 coach, NOT a 3-4 coach.

ZBS......I actually like the scheme, however, I like it much better when it's manned by monsters, not the lightest collective line in the game. Any wonder why they are getting run over. Granted, its worked in the past, but adjustments are made all of the time in this game. Isn't it time to do the same with this group.

Speaking of adjustments.......seen any lately during a game???

OK, let's talk about the cap and lack of first round picks through next season. One the right move, the other punitive simply because. What do you do? I'm voting for a complete assessment of the players that you have, realize that, stealing a few games because we prepared game plans that did not expose their weaknesses but instead played to their strengths. Work tirelessly on those weaknesses during this past camp and off season. Clearly not done!!!

Leading the league in yard per carry running the ball down people throats ? But, lets stop living in the past ... because the NFC East is not the same, neither is the NFL for that matter. Everything changes ... the question that might be relevant is has Mike evolved fast enough to keep pace?

I think he's done ok

I wrote about this topic. The team needs to invest in a player personnel department and hire a true GM. The HC should not be making long term decisions for a franchise who will be here long after he is gone.

Stymie, I'm not sure what point you are trying to prove? That he has lost this team? Just look at how they played on Monday night if that is what you want. Trent had is worst game of the year. Polumbus - worst. Wilson - worst. RG3 - worst. This when I'm sure Shanahan spent all week pounding it into their heads that this was a must win game at home on National TV. He couldn't get them pumped up even in that scenario.

We here this term "lost the locker room" a lot now.

As a Steeler fan, we've been on a rollercoaster this year and it's lowest point was being blown out in NE (not prime time, but a featured 4:30 start)...I think what you look for now is how the team responds from this point forward...professional players has a lot pride and do not like being embarrassed.

If the effort is not on the field the rest of the way...WAS will most likely make a change @ the HC spot.
